We had the good fortune of connecting with Konnie Aguilar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Konnie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I was introduced to art and music at a young age by my father who is a professional painter/muralist and musician. Since I was born my home was always full of paints, paintbrushes, canvases, and musical instruments. Several of my family members are artists as well, it runs through our blood. I remember my father always telling me how important art and music are for children, it expands their minds, creativity, and opens up whole new worlds for them. My family has been an incredible inspiration for me and it’s what really lead me to this path.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is inspired by love, light, and nature. It is a fusion of the natural, the past, and the present. Battling illness for most of my life has really inspired me to care for others and to take health very seriously. I wanted to create something that is beneficial and that helps bring people comfort and relaxation. My love for God, humanity, and art is what truly drives me to create.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It would be a tough choice between a day at the beach or a trip up to the mountains for a hike. Being in the sunshine and nature and barefoot in the soil is incredibly healing and therapeutic. My friend and I would spend time exploring and maybe take a dive into a river or lake. We would have picnics under a big tree and cook our dinners on the camp fire at night. Nights will be late with deep conversations and star gazing.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Aside from my family, I have to give a big shout out to the love of my life, Kyle. He supported and believed in me when I created XOCO from scratch and he was there for me every step of the way. I couldn’t have done this without him, his love and faith fueled me through the tough times and lifted me up to create XOCO.
