Meet Kory Alexander | Creative Director & Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kory Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kory, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Becoming a creative has been one of the most rewarding and freeing decisions that I’ve ever made. What drives me every day, is the ability to develop and tell stories that feel near and dear to me, and share them with all my supporters. Whether it’s in collaboration with an artist, a short film, or even BTS for a friends project, it brings me fulfillment in knowing that I helped bring a project to life. Being an artist means pushing not only your own limits, but even those that exist within our society and communities. Producing projects has given me the ability to express myself through the medium, and I love using my art to connect with everyone who supports me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
From start to finish on a project, I’m always involved with it’s most intimate details. Location scouting, casting, story development, and creative direction are all the biggest pillars in ensuring a project is successful. The time and effort that I put into each project always yields a high end result that I pride myself on, and if it’s a commission for a client I love when they love the end result. Producing videos is by far a grind and not an easy task, no matter how accessible all the tools are today to create them. It takes years of discipline, creative ideating, and creative direction to build a good product and business. By doing this, I got to where I am today through picking up a camera 4 years ago and learning through trial and error. I got to build my skills within communities of creatives while in school at UCLA, and I got to learn through the entertainment business through WME. I’m not necessarily where I want to be yet, but the steps I’ve taken to get to where I am today have me proud of the position I’ve been able to make it to. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is to never give up and always trust your own vision. Some projects may not perform as well as others, however the mark of a good project is knowing how much effort you put into it. Create for your own satisfaction and fulfillment, and you’ll forever be satisfied with your end results.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica will forever be one of my favorite corners of the city. The stores, the food, and the bars are always more than enough to sign up for a good time, not to mention the beach being two blocks down. LA is best when it feels like a summertime vibe, and Santa Monica never disappoints. On top of this, the Melrose District is always a great way to spend the day or evening. The rooftop theater in the area is always a favorite of mine and is probably one of the most comfortable places in the city. There’s so many activities to get into in it’s area, and it’s inviting to everyone. Lastly, you can’t skip hanging out both downtown at LA Live or in Hollywood as cliché as it may sound. Both locations are staples of the city that everyone should experience at least once while out here!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The two biggest people responsible for keeping me productive and on my toes are my best friend Will and my amazingly talented girlfriend Kyrah Michelle. They’ve been two of the biggest supporters who’ve given me some of my biggest motivation to create day in and day out. They’re both two incredible creatives in their own lanes, and deserve all the recognition and support in the world. You can find them on Instagram @Willthadeall and @ Earth2Kyrah!
