We had the good fortune of connecting with Kostas Siozos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kostas, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Keep going or give up? Well I don’t like to give up easily. When someone tells me “oh man forget it, it’s never gonna happen”, that moment I am “I’ll prove you that you’re wrong”. Usually you know when is time to give up and move forward with something else. You know, your heart and your guts can tell you exactly what to do. So just trust them and don’t pay attention what other people say, they speak with their own experiences. I mean I know sometimes some of our goals are hard to achieve and you might be tired keep trying, but the moment that you’ll think to give up, this is the right time to keep going.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As I mentioned last year, I’ve been working on my new band “Black Kaiser”. We are almost done with the recordings of some new songs. They are at the mastering stage right now and hopefully they’re going to be released soon. The music is inspired from Heavy Rock, Metal and some Prog elements. As I like to describe it, is a “Black Sabbath-Tool Hybrid”. Since you asked if it’s easy, it’s not. I’ve been running the whole band by myself, writing songs, promoting, trying to find ways to grow it. I’m not complaining at all, because it was my choice. I do really love the idea of a brotherhood, but in my case it’s really hard to find people with the same dreams, goals and willing to fight until the end. I have a clear vision of my band and where is going, so I don’t want to compromise with it. Yeah it makes it hard, but it’s worth it. What it sets me apart from others is the style of music I chose to play. I’ve been living in LA 4 years now and I haven’t find any underground bands to sound like mine. So if any bands out there like and play music inspired by Black Sabbath, Tool, Mastodon, Alice in Chains, Kyuss, please let’s come all together and create a strong scene.
Something else I started last year is to build my own home music studio. It’s called “The Sound of Doom”, it’s still in an early stage and the only I’m doing so far is the Black Kaiser music. But it will open the doors for other artists soon enough.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the beach and the ocean. So yeah we would go to Venice, Santa Monica and Malibu watch the sunset and enjoy some food by the beach. The route I would take to the beach is through Mulholland Drive. It’s so graphical & magical driving in the woods. Then of course Sunset Strip in WeHo, for all the rock history that’s there. Hollywood Blvd for all the craziness. DTLA for the rooftop bars and restaurants and some hiking at Griffin Park for the amazing view of the town.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Lately I’ve been reading a lot, especially about music business. So I would like to recommend these books: “How To Make It in the New Music Business” by Ari Herstand, “Six-Figure Musician” by David Hooper, “All You Need to Know about Music Business” by Donald Passman, “Music Marketing for the DIY Musician” by Bobby Borg. To all my musician friends out there, do me a favor and read them or listen the audiobooks. You need to know how the music business works. Those books will make you understand how to run your carrier and achieve your goals sooner.
