Meet KOUSHIK | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with KOUSHIK and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KOUSHIK, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Success never came to me easy. It was always hard earned and a journey full of struggle. So I guess I valued success very highly when I actually achieved it. I do admit that initially I quantified success with money, fame and recognition like many other’s do. However, slowly I realized that success is more qualitative than quantitative. Success is also comparative. What you call success might not be success to me and vice versa. So my approach to success slowly changed and became more philosophical. Success right now to me is all about making my own self happy and satisfied. Creating a character or a project makes me happy. As I stopped chasing behind success I became more successful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I moved from medical science to becoming a full time actor. That was a hugely challenging time for me. I had to learn from the scratch. I had to make friends in the industry from zero. I had to understand the concepts of the entertainment industry and the jargons used. One thing that helped me set myself apart from my peers was my gift for comedy. As I kept acting in comedic shows I started getting recognized for my talent and started to stand out. It took a good amount of time and happened slowly. That’s how life works unfortunately. All good things happen slowly. But I am an extremely patient person. I knew it’s going to be a long haul. So I was mentally prepared from the beginning. I kept building on my comedy skills. And now I’m recognized in the industry for my comedy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hollywood is my most favorite place of all in the city, believe it or not. I know it’s dirty and all. But as I walk on the walk of fame, I can feel the overwhelming power of the energy all around me. After a hot day’s walk on the Hollywood boulevard and seeing all the actors and their tricks, I will drink some cold mango lassi and eat some spicy curry at the Urban Masala on Hollywood Boulevard. Then I will come back close to the Chinese Theatre, find a spot to sit down and just watch all those people who come to to visit Hollywood from all around the world. See and study their characters and try to feel their emotions.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Like everyone else I too got a lot of help and support from many people on the way. Without the support of all those people things would be very different and I don’t think I will be where I am right now. However, if anyone stands out it will be my mother and my wife. They both are my biggest critics and my biggest fans! They criticize me so I can better myself but they support me too all the way for everything I do. They have supported me tremendously in my journey. Running a family as an actor is not easy. It’s a difficult job, a difficult lifestyle. So without the support of your close family, you will be miserable and will never reach greater success. My mother has even cooked for my set crews during filming. My wife helps me with poster design and related work. My mother and my wife supported me in all ups and downs in my career.
