We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Chaney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kris, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is necessary in most things in life. We can never know what the future holds for us or if we’re going to be successful or not but we can decide whether or not we take the necessary risk to find out. I have learned that through taking risks things work out or they don’t, and each time is a lesson. I learn more lessons from taking risks than not taking them.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The REEL Film Reviewed podcast was the first audio show I produced under REEL ProduCtions, my production company. It was originally formed to produce film and TV but after my experience editing and producing the episodes, I decided I wanted to produce podcasts as well. Within one year, REEL Film Reviewed has landed top spots on listening app Top 100 lists, achieved top rankings on chartable, been featured on three listening apps multiple times, and is in process of joining a podcast network. It was a lot of fast growth within one year, and it was not without challenges. There are usual technical challenges at times with recording and editing but also with consistency. When you work full time, sometimes it can be difficult to still produce episodes every week. With podcasting, consistency is one of the most important things that determines your success, especially when you have content that people enjoy. Film and TV podcasts are one of the most popular podcasts and also the most common, so there are things you must do to standout. Engagement with your audience is the second most important. I started by recording episodes on my cell phone and releasing them and now I have a full recording and editing setup. What I want the world to know, is that anything with my name attached to it strives for excellence and will continue to improve as long as it exists.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are a few places that I enjoy in the city. The first place would be Venice Beach and the Santa Monica Pier. Then over to Hollywood to eat at Cactus, a local Mexican food truck. I also enjoy Silverlake and Atwater Village for the music and art events.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The success of my podcast is certainly not just mine, I give thanks first and foremost to the listeners of REEL Film Reviewed who I have come to call, The REEL-viewers.
