We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Danielle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kris, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I actually had a few friends push me to start posting content. It was when the pandemic first started and they were telling me “you might as well start this, we don’t know a lot of people doing what you do and it’s going to pop off.” I usually host brunches at restaurants, for example, like Bar Rita in Fort Lauderdale.

So from there, I launched my brunch IG page @Brunchwithk10 and decided to not only post brunch content, but other food content as well. I figured why not post what’s already in my camera roll and be a full on reference guide for South Florida to eat good like me!
Over time, I started to receive a lot of traction, and even though I’m not where I want to be yet, I think switching gears and starting to tap into other forms of content will help me get there.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve literally had so many jobs, it isn’t even a joke. It’s actually a running joke in my parents’ house when tax season comes because I have a long list of W-2 forms LOL! My first job was at a call center for two years when I was 17, from there, it was retail being a cashier at Sports Authority (RIP), serving at restaurants like B-Dubs, Duffy’s, I was a hostess at the Ritz, receptionist, insurance claim analyst, and now I’m still working in the insurance field (which is dope actually and I work from home, and my company is lit, so I really do love it here).

It’s never easy to feel like you don’t belong, especially as a Black woman. We always have to hold our tongue and get brushed to the side easily, and we always have to play it “safe”. Anytime I felt like I didn’t belong at a job, I honestly quit. These jobs don’t care about us. They don’t care what we feel, they don’t care that we spend most of our days dedicating ourselves to better a company just to get a 50 cent raise after a year or two. An important lesson I learned was: TAKE THOSE DAYS OFF. We all need a recharge and life is really about balance, even though a week off won’t make up for the other 51 we’re working and probably missing out on important moments we can’t get back.

I’m about to be 27, I may be young to some but I do think that this is really a time in our lives where we need to buckle down and really figure out what we want to do. I want the world to know that my brand really does represent me, and it always will. I’m going to do things on my time, and do it when I want to, so that way it can come out its best. Sometimes I’m taking pictures of food and I’ll look back at it like “damn, you can tell I really put no effort into this.” It’s not like I use a professional camera either, I use my iPhone 11 and use that flash feature, which makes a world of a difference by the way. I think at some point, we’ve all gotten lost in the sauce when it comes to social media. We want attention, we want the drip, we want the body, the look, the likes, the aesthetic. None of that really matters in real life, because we lay down with ourselves at night. I want people to know that we can be ourselves and still be “cool.” We’re all different, and at the end of the day, our stories are all different, but we do all want to succeed.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Is that my bestie in a tessie!? Oh man…where WOULD we go?

I’m definitely getting my dawg flewed out to California. First of all, we’ve never been there, so the energy would be right. I think it’d be best if we started off in Los Angeles for two days so we could get that busy city out of the way first. We would do the walk of fame, Hollywood sign, slide to Beverly Hills in hopes of finding a sugar daddy/mama to buy us something, and doing all of this while……..being fried. I’d also want to see some houses in Beverly Hills so I’d be interested in doing some sort of tour. I definitely would also want to visit a Nipsey Hussle and Kobe Bryant mural and grab some drip from The Marathon Clothing. I’d also need to slide to The Dunes in Inglewood so I can tag my good sis Issa because one thing’s for certain and two things fa sho, I love me some Insecure (ugh Season 5 is going to be so sad). Most importantly, I’m hitting up every single taco spot I see, no doubt about it. I don’t even know the names of any, but I see them all the time on my explore page on my brunch account and wow, I can just taste them now. Well actually I cant, because I heard LA tacos hit different. The Santa Monica pier and Venice Beach would also have to see me because I definitely want to see the water, and compare it to Florida’s. As a snack, I would want to try In n Out because I hear half and half reviews, so I’d need to see that for myself.

After LA, we could hit Vegas baby! I think two days would be enough. I’m trying to see at least one cirque de soleil show (again) , go to a club (preferably a strip club), hit a pool party (or two), and probably stay at a hotel on the strip. The last time I went, we stayed at Mandalay Bay, so somewhere in that area would be ideal because it was by all the casinos and whatnot. Definitely trying to be in the mix. I’d also want to go to those wedding chapels while drunk and watch people get married. I wonder if they still get dressed up to look the part, and I need pictures to take with strangers because why not.

After Vegas, I’d want to go back to Cali and visit the Oakland area since I’ve never been, and definitely check out San Francisco. We’d start the day off with brunch of course, and The Golden Gate Bridge is definitely a sight to see and I’d love to get a photo opp, and ride on the SF Muni. Highkey, even though it’s corny, I want to visit the That’s So Raven house LOL I loved her so much back in the day and I loved that show! All of those activities would more than likely take up the day. Napa Valley would be the last stop on the trip. We could get dressed up looking all cute, and then head out to crush some grapes with our feet and enjoy the vineyards! What a dream that would be. I’ve always wanted to go to Napa ever since I watched The Parent Trap (Lindsay Lohan version of course), and I’m expecting all of it to give me vibes like the movie did.

All in all, I think the trip would be successful once some research is done. I love doing touristy things and I know the weather would be amazing and I could ask some of my friends who have been there for suggestions. Hm *starts googling flights*

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh man, the list could go on and on. The support has been endless since I started my brunch page. My best friend Bree, IG @breedaddy.mp3, has always been there to support my creative visions. She’s also a web developer so soon I think we can work on something for myself now that we have enough content to work with, and attract more brunchies. My other best friend Lisa always shows up to my brunches. @JamalAkakpo was the final push to get my brunch page started, so one time for him. @KaniasKitchen is the reason I was blessed with this opportunity to get some more exposure, thank you girl! All of the food bloggers and restaurants that have reposted my content or tagged me are greatly appreciated as well. A lot of my followers on my personal page always participate in polls on my IG story and share my content and I am always eternally grateful.
@Empoweredvision17 is the reason why I have a fabulous new logo and I can’t wait to work with her again so we can start creating more content, she’s a dope graphic designer so I’m super excited to see her talents continue to grow.

Everyone who’s visited my IG page has a special place in my heart. It isn’t easy to put yourself out there on these platforms that can tear you down so easily, and where it’s easy to be dismissed amongst the many content creators out there. I appreciate all of you!
