We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kris, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?

The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. I love this quote by Albert Einstein because it wraps up life on earth in one sentence. We could knock out evil in this world if we would all get involved and help Humanity. Most people look the other way and do not want to get involved because they are scared for themselves. If everybody had the courage to do something when they saw abuse towards another living being we could wipe out the darkness in this world. I kept seeing animal abuse on our streets, animal shelters and residential homes and I knew I had to do something. It would have been easier to look the other way and go on with my life of entertaining myself and making it all about me but I knew that wasn’t what I was put on this earth for. God pursued me and he whispered in my ear that he wanted me to help animals that needed a voice and that’s how my mission began. It hasn’t been an easy journey but I will not stop until animals are not considered property and the abuse ends!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

The Kris Kelly Foundation rescues animals from our local animal shelter and finds them forever loving home. What sets us apart is that we help all animals. Dogs, Cats, Chickens, Roosters, Pigs, Turkeys, Turtles, Peacocks, Ducks and whatever living creature needs us. Thinking outside of the box is important also. We help the public also by giving advice and helping with spay and neuter.. People like to know they are not alone and there are people out there that care!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

When people come to visit me from out of town the first place I take them is Taverna Tony’s in Malibu. I love the atmosphere and food. I am vegan so I can always find something to eat like a salad or the hummus which is amazing. If I were to put together an itinerary for one week for my guests it would be to show them the views of the ocean from Malibu and drive down PCH to Duck and Dive for a quick drink and socialize with the locals. What would visiting Los Angeles be like without visiting Venice. I lived Speedway Drive in Venice for 7 years. I would rent some bikes and we would bike from Venice to the Santa Monica Pier. Shopping on the Promenade would be next where you can find great shops like Tiffany’s. I would make sure to bring my guests to all the Vegan Restaurants located in Santa Monica so they can taste for themselves how good vegan food is. One of my favorite restaurants in Beverly Hills is La Scala where the ambience can’t be beat. Who doesn’t like the feel of Old Hollywood? We would next taking a stroll down Rodeo Drive and then drive over to West Hollywood and continue to Hollywood were all of the glitz and glamour started. Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is a must see so we can put our hands in the cement of all the Stars of yesterday and see if we match up. The lights of Hollywood makes us feel like magic still exists.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

There are two people that influenced me to start my own 501c3 non-profit animal rescue in 2006. First is Gillian Lange of the Lange Foundation in Beverly Hills and second Chris DeRose of Last Chance for Animals in West Hollywood, CA. These two people have helped so many animals for decades. I first volunteered with the Lange Foundation in Beverly Hills and I learned about rescuing dogs from the local shelter and what it took to prepare the dog or cat for adoption and how to run an organization properly. I also volunteered for Chris DeRose at Last Chance for Animals and learned about animal predators and how to spot them and set them up for arrest. The experience I had with LCA has made me the animal investigator I am now and also the experience with working with law enforcement and private investigators. I couldn’t have asked for better mentors than Gillian Lange and Chris DeRose.
