We had the good fortune of connecting with Krista Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krista, what principle do you value most?
On a personal level, although I am well aware that this may sound very Basic B**ch of me lol, I always try to live my life by the same principle. That is “Treat people the way you want to be treated!”. If more people put their energy into living by this one principle, our world would be a much better place to live.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I intentionally launched my business on June 19, 2020 also known as Juneteenth because of how hard that year was on my community. I wanted to do something that I could be proud of as a black-female business owner.
Although my business is still very new, getting here today has been an exciting journey. I have made some mistakes, but also learned so many lessons along the way. I honestly would not change a thing. Staying true to myself and the brand is probably the biggest lesson I’ve learned. With social media and online marketing, it is very easy to get lost as a small business owner. It’s easy to get caught up following trends and copying what others do online. The truth is, people purchase products from people/companies they like. Having a quality product that’s affordable is one piece, but the other piece is being likeable and relatable. With that formula, the sells will continue to come. So no need to be anything, but myself!
I am most excited at the moment about getting into the retail and television space this year. I am currently in a brand new retail store called Uplift Us Marketplace in the Westfield Shopping Center in Culver City, CA. In addition to that, Truth Skincare has been featured on the hit CBS game show Let’s Make a Deal multiple times this season. Lot’s more to come for this small organic skincare line in 2022.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am probably not the best person to ask, but it’s a great question nonetheless, so I will take a stab at it…
Food – The obvious ones are Roscoe’s, In-n-Out, Gyu-Kaku, Titos Tacos, etc. However, Catch LA, Tao, Soho House Downtown, and Manuela are always good vibes.
Visit – Bike riding along the beach has always been one of my favorite things to do. LA has so many beautiful beaches, so that is a must! Then maybe a couple of cool rooftop bars like Mama Shelter, Margot, EP. & LP. or the Broken Shaker.
For first timers, you have to do the Walk of Fame, LACMA, the Getty, maybe even Rodeo Drive. However, in addition to the tourist spots, I’d head over to Inglewood to try Randy’s donuts and see beautiful Sofi stadium before they head back to LAX.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to the women in my life! Everyone of you are so strong, loving, intelligent, sassy, and supportive. Each and every one of you exude beauty, class, femininity, independence and strength. So shoutout to my mother, two sisters, two grandmothers, and long list of besties.
