Meet Krista Jones | Owner, Truth Skincare

We had the good fortune of connecting with Krista Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krista, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
A couple of things actually. One, I have a business degree and I really enjoy building businesses from the ground up. In my career, I have worked at various start-ups to help build other people’s businesses from inception all the way through IPO. I wanted to take what I learned in school and at work, and apply to something of my own.
The second part is that I recognized that there was a need. Most organic/natural skincare companies are not 100% clean and natural like Truth Skincare is. None of my products are made with chemicals or preservatives. Everything is made with love using organic, clean and cruelty-free ingredients.

What should our readers know about your business?
I want the world to know that my business is owned and operated by a black-female. Also that I am very passionate about bringing clean organic beauty products to the community.
Although my business is still very new, getting here today has been an exciting journey. I have made mistakes, but learned so many lessons along the way. Staying true to myself and my brand is probably the biggest lesson I’ve learned. With social media and online marketing, it is very easy to get lost as a small business owner and find yourself following gimmicky trends and copying what others are doing online. The truth is, people purchase products from people/companies that they like. Having a quality product that’s affordable is one piece, but the other piece is being like-able and relatable. With that formula, the sells will continue to come. So no need to be anything, but myself!
I am most excited at the moment about getting into the retail and television space this year. I am currently in a brand new retail store called Uplift Us Marketplace in the Westfield Shopping Center in Culver City, CA. In addition to that, Truth Skincare has been featured on the hit CBS game show Let’s Make a Deal multiple times this season. Coming up next, you can come check me out June 5th at the AfroUnion festival at Grant Park in Los Angeles and get all your favorite Truth Skincare products in person.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Food – The obvious ones you simply have to try are Roscoe’s and In-n-Out. I recently tried Belle’s Beachhouse in Venice. It was such a vibe!! I felt like I was on vacation. Escala in k-town is a pretty fun brunch. They usually have a dope DJ playing 90’s and 00’s music. Nobu and Malibu Cafe in Malibu are are always pretty places to dine. Lastly, Manuela and Damian in the Arts District are just beautiful hidden gems that I love.
Visit – Bike riding along the beach has always been one of my favorite things to do. LA has so many beautiful beaches, so that is a must! Then maybe a couple of cool rooftop bars like Mama Shelter, Margot, EP. & LP. or the Broken Shaker.
For first timers, you have to do the Walk of Fame, LACMA, the Getty, maybe even Rodeo Drive. However, in addition to the tourist spots, I’d head over to Inglewood to try Randy’s donuts and see beautiful Sofi stadium before they head back to LAX.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Sure! Shoutout to Clark Atlanta University’s school of business for introducing me to different aspects of business, like Marketing, Finance, and HR, while also teaching me how to hustle. The school motto still resonates with me to this very day, which is “Find a way or make one”.
