We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristal Terrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristal, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I love giving back to fellow music fans who have helped my social accounts and online blog become what they are – whether it’s free concert tickets, Ticketmaster gift cards, or a merchandise item from their favorite artist.

The other week, I received a direct message from a winner of a pair of concert tickets. She won the giveaway in the Fall, but her show wasn’t until March. Unbeknownst to me, she lost a loved one around the time I randomly selected her, and the concert was her first outing because the grieving process had been so hard. Music has the power to bring us all together in the most beautiful ways, and I’m grateful I have the opportunity to shine a little light in people’s lives.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a multi-hyphenate. My 9 to 5 consists of me working on the social side of MTV – managing social media accounts for some of the biggest fan-voted award shows like the Video Music Awards and EMAs. My 5 to 9 is running my blog NOLA Concerts, which includes photographing, reviewing, and posting on socials. Additionally, in the last year, I’ve begun building my brand (@kristalterrell) on TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram.

My biggest challenges are work/life balance and time management. The last year has included a lot of trial and error, but I’ve learned to find a flow that works for me that doesn’t leave me feeling drained. I’ve learned to give myself grace and to be proactive vs reactive when possible. Also, it’s okay to not do everything – it’s okay to turn down paid partnerships or giveaway opportunities!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I currently live in New Orleans but love visiting Los Angeles and always share my favorite recommendations with others. I love trying new coffee shops, and some of my favorites in LA are La La Land Kind Cafe, Alfred Coffee, and Alfalfa. I also love visiting iconic music sites in different cities, so LA must stops are pictures outside of Capitol Records, visiting the GRAMMY Museum, a show at one of LA’s iconic music venues like the Hollywood Bowl, shopping at Amoeba Music, and walking along the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One of my college professors, Elizabeth McDougal, was the first person to suggest starting a concert blog. I didn’t think it would amount to anything, but she saw the potential and I’m grateful she instilled the idea in my mind. I didn’t create it until a year later, thanks to Tree Paine – yes, Taylor Swift’s publicist. Taylor Swift’s Reputation Tour in 2018 was the first concert I officially reviewed. Third, my mom for always rooting for me – she bought me my first camera and is my biggest cheerleader. But I’m very fortunate to have a lot of people in my corner who are rooting for me, too many friends and family members to name, and I don’t want to leave anyone out but every DM, text, call, comment, repost, like, and read, does not go unnoticed. This is dedicated to you!
