Meet Kristen Keenan: Owner of I AM My Story Tees

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Keenan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
After being in the Wholesale Fashion Industry for over 20 years, I became a stay at home mom with 2 kids under 2. During this time at home, I always knew I wanted to start a business of my own. Being inspired by positive quotes and metallic prints, I dreamed up my own T shirt brand to spread positivity. In combination with my years of wholesale T shirt experience with companies such as Michael Stars, Gap Inc. and Guess, Inc., I knew the idea was the perfect fit! I AM My Story tees was launched to give women a way to tell their story on a t shirt, find their ” word” or ” quote” and feel inspired wearing their favorite T.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In launching I AM My Story Tees, I wanted the price point to be one the customer didn’t have to second guess. When a customer finds Joy in our graphics and they relate to the ” word” or ” phrase”, I wanted them to not have to break the bank in order to buy it. It is so inspiring to hear a customer say “that’s my word” or tell me a little about how the graphic relates to them and their story and what Joy it brings to them. To me, that’s what it is all about, feeling good and sharing your message of inspiration with others.

I AM My Story Tees has done many promotions to give back to organizations in need.. We have produced special Tees to donate proceeds toward California Wildfire Relief, Texas Hurricanes, the Australian Wildfires, No Kid Hungry, Breast Cancer Awareness and several others. If we can give back and spread positivity it is a win win.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
After moving to the Los Angeles area over 25 years ago from a very small town in Upper Michigan, I have done my fair share of touring and sightseeing with friends and family from out of town. We’ve hit Southern Cal tourist hot spots to trendy new restaurants and have searched for movie star homes to visiting the best beaches around. My family recently came to visit after the year of Quarantine and we had an amazing day driving to Malibu and having lunch at Malibu Farm. Beach + family + sunshine + good food is the perfect combination. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom has always been an inspiration to me in starting my own business. She took a leap of faith to begin her own business when I was in High School, and it turned into a thriving Home Health Care Company.
