We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Mann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I wanted a career that I was able to have freedom in. Being a creative sometimes means your title and roles change. Becoming a Visual Artist first has truly helped me view the world differently and it has opened so many limitless doors that I couldn’t have imagined just starting.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would call my art explodes with inspiration and full of color. Technically it would fall under abstract, but I have created my own style that people have tend to notice without me having to promote it. I quit working my last 9 to 5 in 2019 and it was extremely difficult because I was working in traditional employment since I was 15 years old. The biggest challenge was motivating myself to work and not having a boss to do so. I also was used to getting paid every two week or weekly and once that was no more I felt like a failure. But once I sat down and took the time to figure out what I would like to do and how I would like to grow things became more clear. The lesson from all of these trials and tribulations was to persevere regardless of my situation because nothing is permanent.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first take them on a scenic ride to enjoy the views of the beaches. Once we find our destination that we could park I would find a trail that we could go hiking and catch up in conversation. For food I would make sure we were able to grab some street tacos from a food truck. We also would be spending a ton of our time on the beach with our feet in the sand and of course staying hydrated with our water.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my mentor Tiphani Montgomery for showing me that once you put God as your CEO everything else will fall in place like it should. I also would like to shout out my support system that includes my mom, my sister, and my future husband. They have helped my dreams come alive and have been my backbone even during difficult times.
