We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Engineer (MotoGirl) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The single most important decision I have made that propels me forward in my own business every single day is the conscious decision to not have a Plan B. I didn’t want to have something that I could fall back to if “things didn’t work out.” I believe your Plan A works out if you continue to focus your energy on the overall vision. I have an abundance mindset, which has proven to be crucial in creating the life that I desire. I’ve always been a person who dreams big ideas and then follows through even when other people don’t see the path to that vision. I was a music educator for many years before starting my pop production house and artist consultancy business. I maintained my artistry through recording albums of original music and at the same time creating my own curriculum for the work I did with children from the ages of 4 to 14. I approach most everything I do in my life with an entrepreneurial mindset.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MotoGirl Music is a pop production house and artist consultancy business based out of Los Angeles. We write dance pop, electropop and French pop for tv/film, ads, promos and trailers. What sets us apart is that we have a unique pop sound created by our songwriters, music producers from across the world, and our artist Sophie Gold. We deliver high quality, one-stop, mainstream catchy pop that works extremely well under picture. We have a catalog of songs to peruse and are available to create customs with quick turnarounds. The artist consultancy arm of MotoGirl Music assists and uplifts indie artists and composers that want to learn how to approach their artistry as a business and who need overall coaching. We offer custom built one on one sessions with services that include, but are not limited to, project management, music business, networking and making connections in the music industry.

Building the business has definitely been challenging, but I love every minute of it. The highs and the lows and the new things I learn all of the time, makes me a more resilient person with a growth mindset. I’ve learned that if you keep putting the focused work in, wake up with a schedule and a list, keep striving to do your best and learn to accept the outcomes even if they are not what you expected, abundance has to be attracted to you. I am most excited about the idea that all over the world people can hear our music just by going to the movies or watching tv and that everyday we are lifting people up either with our artist consultancy or our music. I am most proud of the perseverance and dedication that everyone on the team brings everyday.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love Los Angeles! I would take my guests to the ocean one day for a walk along the Malibu shore and boardwalk and to watch the sun set. The next day would be spent going to my favorite coffee shop in MidCity, Jurassic Magic, for great lattes and amazing pastries. Then we would go downtown to The Broad for a special exhibit in the afternoon and out to dinner at La Cha Cha Cha. The next day would be spent hiking to the Hollywood sign and if it was summer out to the Hollywood Bowl for a concert. We would also have to hit up Ka’teen in Hollywood and a music showcase at my friend Grant Owens, We Found New Music events at Hotel Ziggy or Bar Lubitsch. Because I ride a Ducati Monster, we would definitely have to take a ride on the PCH and up into the hills overlooking the ocean. The pasta and mile high bread soaked in olive oil at Osteria Mozza is some of the best food I’ve had. We would most certainly have to catch a show at The Roxy for some amazing up and coming pop artist. Basically, we would be exhausted ,because LA is so much fun!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been many supportive people on this pop production house journey. My producer teams are so important to me and in particular my main collaborator/producer Aventurina King. Her brilliant dance pop production techniques and her vocal delivery as the vocalist/artist Sophie Gold, has help build the MotoGirl Music brand from the ground up. Aventurina was introduced to me by my songwriting coach, Robin Frederick, who was also an incredibly important person on my path of success. Robin owns the company My Song Coach and conducts workshops and one on one feedback sessions. I cannot thank my sister, Erika Knudson, enough for always being by my side.. My financial planner and friend Juliette Castelli was also integral in helping me build my business and encouraging me through the frustrating times. All of these women are complete icons to me. My friend Mike McConnon also helped me envision my brand with his expertise in marketing. The list really goes on and on. You cannot build and live the dream alone.
