We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristina Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristina, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Long Beach, California. However, I grew up mostly in the Boston, Massachusetts area. My background is mixed race black & white, African-American & Irish-American mostly. When I was younger, I moved around a lot. I think that one of the ways my background and upbringing impacts who I am today is because since I have family members of different ethnicities and I’ve lived in different types of places, I am familiar with and I can be comfortable around and relate to, and understand all different types of people.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an actor & writer! One of the things that sets me apart from others is that since I have a mixed race background and I’ve either lived in or visited a lot of different states, I’m able to easily bring many different perspectives to storylines and characters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We have to enjoy some good food & drinks! So, I would recommend to them some of my favorite restaurants including BlaqHaus, The Front Yard, Mofongos, Trejo’s Tacos, Veggie Grill, Something Vegan, Over/Under, Urban Press Winery, Mardi Gras Tuesday, and The Fat Dog. On Sunday we’d go to the Vegan Exchange LA.
On Friday we’d go to Jazz at LACMA.
One of the days would definitely be a beach day, we’d go to the Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, and one of the beaches in Malibu.
My favorite amusement park is Universal Studios, so on one of the days we’d go there.
One day would be the Warner Bros. Studio tour.
And, probably the most touristy thing on my list, I’d take them to Hollywood to see the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Grauman’s Chinese Theatre!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to all of my family & friends, I love you all and I’m so blessed to be able to have your love! A special shoutout to my two favorite people in the whole wide world, my kids, Chris & Michelle! I’d also like to give a shoutout to the cast & crew of all of the films/shows that I have done, it is always because of the team that what we’re working on is able to go from someone’s idea to audiences around the world enjoying what we’ve created together, so shoutout to the various teams that I’ve worked with, thank you!
