We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristine Bautista and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristine, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I see risk as the intersection of opportunity and uncertainty. It’s not just about the potential for loss; it’s about the potential for gain that wouldn’t exist without stepping into the unknown. I think of risk-taking as a calculated move – understanding the stakes, weighing the possible outcomes, and then deciding if the upside justifies the leap. It’s about being bold enough to venture beyond what’s comfortable, while also being strategic enough to ensure that the risk serves a larger purpose. In my view, risk is the fuel that drives innovation and growth; without it, progress stalls.
Risk has always been a significant theme in my life, shaping my journey in ways I never anticipated. From a young age, I recognized that staying within the boundaries of comfort could only take me so far. The real growth, the profound learning, and the extraordinary opportunities have always emerged when I was willing to take a leap into the unknown. Risk, for me, is less about gambling with the odds and more about having the courage to pursue what truly matters, even when the outcome is uncertain. It’s about pushing beyond the fear of failure and trusting that the path forward, however unpredictable, is worth exploring.
In my career – within the worlds of entertainment and healing arts – risk has been a constant catalyst for change and innovation. Every significant decision I’ve made has involved stepping away from the familiar. These risks have opened doors to new realms of creativity, personal fulfillment, and professional growth that I wouldn’t have discovered if I had played it safe. I’ve come to understand that taking risks is essential in industries that demand reinvention and resilience; it’s what keeps me evolving and relevant.
The impact of risk-taking extends far beyond my professional life. On a personal level, risk has meant choosing authenticity over acceptance, following my intuition over societal expectations, and embracing paths that felt right for me, even when they deviated from the norm. It’s about living in alignment with my true self and being willing to face the uncertainty that comes with that choice. These decisions, while sometimes challenging, have enriched my life in ways that I couldn’t have imagined. They’ve allowed me to build a life that feels deeply meaningful, even if it’s not always the most conventional.
What I’ve learned through these experiences is that risk is inherently tied to growth. Each time I’ve taken a risk, regardless of the outcome, it has led to some form of transformation—whether it’s acquiring new skills, gaining new perspectives, or developing a deeper understanding of myself. Even when risks haven’t worked out as planned, they’ve provided me with valuable lessons that have informed my future decisions. They’ve taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of trusting my inner guidance, especially when the path ahead isn’t clear.
Ultimately, I believe that risk is the bridge between where we are and where we aspire to be. It’s the act of reaching beyond our current circumstances, not with blind optimism, but with a grounded belief in the possibility of something greater. Risk-taking is about honoring the calling within us, the drive to explore, to grow, and to fulfill our potential. It’s about stepping into the unknown with confidence, knowing that every risk we take, whether it leads to success or failure, is an essential part of our journey toward a richer, more authentic life.
What I fear is to live without daring, to exist without impact – moving through the world unnoticed, leaving no impact, no spark, no trace that I ever breathed this air. I am here to carve my mark. I want to live fully, deeply, and without reservation, so that when I’m gone, the world is just a little bit different because I was here.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a hairstylist in the film and television industry my career has been driven by a passion for creating looks that not only bring characters to life but also support the overall storytelling of a project. What sets me apart is my attention to detail and my ability to lead a team in a way that ensures consistency, creativity, and seamless collaboration with other departments. My work is not just about styling hair; it’s about understanding the emotional arc of the story and making sure every look aligns with that vision.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with directors, producers, and actors. It’s a reflection of my ability to manage a team, anticipate challenges, and deliver results without added stress for others.
The path to becoming a department head wasn’t without its challenges. In an industry where long hours and high expectations are the norm, I’ve had to develop not only my technical skills but also my leadership abilities. Managing a team on set means being able to balance creative demands with logistical realities, while also creating a supportive environment where everyone can do their best work. I’ve learned that clear communication, adaptability, and staying calm under pressure are key to success in this role.
What I want the world to know about my story is that my work is built on more than just experience – it’s rooted in a deep understanding of both the art and the business of filmmaking. Being a department head means leading with both vision and heart, making sure that every style, every look, contributes to the bigger picture. For me, it’s about creating not just beautiful work but a harmonious, efficient, and inspired team dynamic on set.
My practice as a Medical Intuitive is another dimension of my work, where I focus on helping individuals tap into their body’s innate wisdom for healing. I guide people through understanding the root causes of their health challenges. This work is deeply personal and transformative, as it empowers people to reclaim their health and well-being on all levels – physical, emotional, and spiritual. My unique approach combines intuitive insight with a deep understanding of energy systems, allowing me to offer guidance that complements traditional medical care. This holistic perspective enables me to support clients in achieving a more comprehensive and profound level of healing.
One of the aspects I’m most proud of is my ability to facilitate meaningful breakthroughs for clients, leading to transformative shifts in their well-being. The recent achievement of my Master Certification in Intuition Medicine® allows me to work in conjunction with medical professionals, highlighting my commitment to integrating intuitive and conventional approaches to health.
The journey to becoming a Medical Intuitive has been marked by its own set of challenges. I’ve had to undertake extensive personal healing work to effectively serve my clients. Engaging deeply in my own healing journey has been essential in ensuring that I provide clear and unbiased support. This personal growth has not only enhanced my abilities but also deepened my compassion and understanding of the healing process.
My journey to where I am today has been one of learning, growth, and perseverance. Integrating the different disciplines I am trained in required me to trust in my path and navigate the challenges of blending intuition with science, and ancient wisdom with modern practices. Healing is a deeply personal and multi-faceted journey. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, which is why I’m committed to offering individualized care that addresses the whole person – mind, body, and spirit.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of alignment – being true to who I am and what I’m passionate about. Whether in my work on set or my healing practice, I’ve found that success comes from staying connected to my purpose and trusting the process.
What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that it’s not just about individual accomplishments but about the integration of diverse experiences to create something truly unique. It’s about more than just hair or healing – it’s about creating spaces where people can find connection, whether it’s through the art of hairstyling, the rituals of healing, or the bonds of community. My brand aims to inspire others to explore and embrace their own paths and the beauty of combining various elements to forge a distinct and meaningful journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Los Angeles for a week, I’d plan an itinerary that blends all my favorite spots – great food, iconic sights, and a little entertainment. We’d start with dinner at Crossroads in West Hollywood, an upscale plant-based restaurant that makes you forget you’re eating vegan. The Mediterranean-inspired dishes are creative and flavorful and are a hit with vegans and non-vegans alike. It’s the perfect spot to kick off the week with some upscale dining and cozy vibes.
The next morning, we’d head over to Malibu. We’d spend the morning at El Matador Beach, one of Malibu’s more secluded beaches, known for its beautiful rock formations and quiet atmosphere. On the way back, I’d suggest we stop at the Getty Villa to enjoy its art and beautiful gardens. For lunch, we’d stop at Great White, a casual spot right by the beach. Their menu is fresh and simple, with a focus on California flavors. It’s the perfect way to refuel before hitting the boutiques and galleries along Abbot Kinney Boulevard.
Midweek, we’d head downtown for a more urban experience and a deeper dive into the art scene. We’d explore The Broad Museum, a contemporary art museum in downtown LA. I’d also take them to LACMA – not only is it one of the city’s cultural highlights, but the urban lights outside are the perfect photo op. After an art-filled afternoon, we’d end the trip on a high note with dinner at Gracias Madre in West Hollywood. This plant-based Mexican restaurant serves some of the best vegan food around and their outdoor patio with twinkling lights makes for a relaxed and fun evening.
Following dinner, we’d grab tickets for a comedy show at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood. There’s nothing like ending the night with some laughs at one of LA’s most iconic comedy clubs.
As the weekend rolls in, we’d be ready for some nature, so we’d start the day with a hike up Griffith Park to the Griffith Observatory. The views of the city, especially with the Hollywood sign in the background, are iconic, and the observatory itself is always fascinating.
Later, we’d unwind with lunch at Eataly in Century City. I love the marketplace feel of this place – you can browse, taste, and pick up some of the freshest Italian ingredients, and the pizza or pasta options are just divine. After lunch, we’d spend the afternoon shopping at Century City Mall, which has everything from high-end designers to fun local brands. It’s a perfect way to mix good food with a little retail therapy.
Each day would be a blend of LA’s diverse offerings – beaches, art, food, and unforgettable views. And of course, there’d be plenty of time for spontaneous stops, whether that’s at a cool cafe, a pop-up market, or one of LA’s many scenic hikes like Runyon Canyon or the Temescal Canyon trail. Every part of the city has its own flavor, and I’d make sure they get a little taste of it all.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to the most important people in my life – my amazing kids, who are my daily inspiration and are the reason why I get out of bed each day.
