Meet Kyle Lampi | Lifestyle, Nutrition, & Exercise Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Lampi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyle, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I love this question because the actions of what it takes to be a healthy person, are the same actions that it takes to be a successful business person.
Anything worth having in life is a simple equation. Consistency + Time = Result.
When you see someone that you admire, don’t look at what they have, look at their daily actions. For example a person who has the health that you want. They probably sleep well, drink water, eat high quality foods, move their body daily, lift weights, manage stress, get sunshine, and have quality relationships. Same goes for starting and owning a business. They show up on time, they are constantly learning, taking risks, planning ahead, pivoting when needed.
Here’s where it gets tricky. We said that consistency + Time = Result. Time is going to pass so you dont’ have to worry about that. Consistency is the work you have to do and it’s only up to you. Eventhough hard, many people can push through work it takes to be consistent. I think we’re people falter is in the result. Even with spot on consistency and enough time, the result is out of your hands. Managing expectations around what the “result” is can be crushing. Learning to control what you can and letting go of what you can’t and still keep pushing forward is the key.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art I am referring to is the art of coaching. Coaching is much more than being a trainer. A trainer facilitates exercise, a coach teaches. My goal as a coach is to teach my clients the tools they need to autonomous in their fitness journey. Learning how to move and why. Understanding how to manage sleep, why is sunshine important, what foods work well with their bodies and how to manipulate these factors to be the best version of themselves. I know I’ve done my job when a client doesn’t need me anymore, they want me to be there instead.
All of the years of coaching group classes and seeing movement, learning the principles of strength training, understanding how nutrition plays an integral role in all of it has been years of studying and making mistakes. It hasn’t been easy but it’s been enjoyable! The craziest thing is that I am just scratching the surface. There is so much more to learn and experience in this profession.
One thing I would love for people to learn from working with me is that the answers they are seeking have always been there and they knew them. They either weren’t aware or had been convinced that they didn’t know somewhere along the way. Everyone knows they should exercise. Everyone knows they shouldn’t only eat pizza and drink coke for every meal. The question becomes, how do I illuminate that knowledge again. How do I make them aware and want to show up for themselves. That’s the real work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh that is a great question!
We would for sure be active! Hiking in the morning, gym session mid day, walking to dinner or a great coffee shop. The beach of course!
In more depth it could look like this. Head over to Hillhurst in Los Feliz and get in line at MARU. Getting there early though because no one likes to get up early in LA. That is a huge advantage in this city. If you don’t want to wait anywhere, get up early. After we grabbed our coffee’s head over the YeastIe Boys truck. Usually parked outside of Blue Bottle Coffee and get a nice breakfast sandwich. Take the coffee and the sandwich to the Griffith Park and find a shaded area and enjoy. After a nice digestive walk up the observatory.
If we are more on the Glendale side I would say walk down to Regent Coffee, breakfast at Bea Bea’s. Head over to brand park for a quick hike. Nice views of the city. Chill by the pool at my place and then walk down to the mall area for some Din Tai Fung or Carosel for dinner.
Honestly the options are endless here in LA. It’s actually overwhelming sometimes and I get decision fatigue. haha.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are three major contributors to my fitness career.
First, my Dad. He raised me to move my body every day with out me even knowing it. Skateboarding, riding a bike, hockey, dirt bikes, karate, lifting weights, golf. We were always doing something active and it never felt like a chore.
Second, Brandon Keochlin. The owner of Crossfit 615, where I started out as member and was groomed into being a coach. He is the one who saw something in me I didn’t’ know what was there and helped facilitate a passion for coaching. He is the one who introduced me to the third step in my journey… OPEX
Third, OPEX…haha. OPEX is an organization that dives deep into what it means to be a coach. Learning how to see the person in front of you for who they are mentally, emotionally, and physically and how to align lifestyle, nutrition, and exercise programs to push them towards the life they want to live.
