Meet Kylie Long | Graphic design & fine art artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylie Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kylie, how do you think about risk?
Risks are your path to gold in any career. Especially as a creative where the quality of your work brings in success. Going through that discovery has to be authentic. It takes time,practice,luck,mood..the perfect storm . Allowing yourself that time to create is always a risk. Some days are just put aside to think. Feel. It’s not always something you can just do. There is no A B C to art.
A lot of times as an artist we hold onto another stable career as we refine our craft. The true risk is letting that go in order to become more. Sometimes in order to reach the next level you have to allow yourself to jump and free fall for a bit. This is terrifying ! But necessary. Necessary to take the time to commit to your self, your craft. When you commit to your vision people will start to notice and want to take part.
The second I let go of my studio job and became the full time owner of KyOdi my work ethic tripled along with my energy and drive with art in general. I found myself discovering and expanding my possibility as an artist.
When you take the risk to work for yourself you develop a self respect and understanding that defines you as an artist. Risk gives you the opportunity believe that. And that’s everything.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am all about creating artwork that makes people feel good! I love playing with color. Creating images that are vibrant and expressive. A big part of my artwork is playing with sensuality. I love the body. How beautiful and unique we all are. It creates an intimate experience and showcases a knowing of self and a pride in that. We all need to find the fun in sexy. It’s a huge part of who we are. There is no shame in that.
My mind was always full blown artist. Creating the art shows with my partner in crime Sasha helped me balance that out. The drive was finding/discovering purpose and how to play with that. I love creating instillation pieces for people to immerse themselves in. It’s important for me to create something that people want to be involved in. Get inside of and become.
With the shows we put on networking is a creatives best friend. It took me some failing forward moments to realize that. It’s all about connection. Inspiring each other.
When you make artwork an experience people want to collaborate. Be apart of it. Create opportunities for each other. The goal is a win win win scenario. Creatives, entrepreneurs, business minds, we all thrive off of each other. Our collaboration creates impact. That’s the goal.
Seeing how the art shows brought people together and hearing the conversations going on. Excited explosions of possibility, projects, ideas, “I’m so glad we met!!” That was a wow moment for me. That’s success.
