Meet Laila Odom | Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Laila Odom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laila, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
What makes me happy is performing. I’m so blessed to be an actress, this is what I wanted to do since I was 7 years old. Its been a tough journey at times, but it makes me appreciate everything so much more.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The beautiful thing about being an actor is, none of our stories are the same. I’m really proud of my work on “ZATIMA”, portraying the character “Connie”. During the 3rd season, Connie opens up about her breast cancer diagnosis. In my personal life one of my best friends (Amber Mike) was going through her battle with Stage 3 colorectal cancer. I remember reading the script in her hospital room, and finding out my character would be facing a cancer battle as well. About 2 weeks later, we shoot the scene where I reveal to tell my friend Tony about the breast cancer diagnosis… We shot it in one take. I felt like that was some of my best work. There was such a response to that scene, I ended up becoming an American Cancer Society ambassador and making cancer prevention/awareness my philanthropic passion.
I’ve come a long way from creating/performing sketches on Vine, to weekly sketches at All Def Digital and Kevin Hart’s LOL network, to working with Mario Van Pebbles on the “Salt N Pepa” biopic
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
