We had the good fortune of connecting with Lain Roy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lain, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“You only get out what you put in”. This quote is what I try to think about when I’m unmotivated to work on a song, to do anything.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I first got interested in music from my mother. She was a touring musician that was on the tv show “You Can Be A Star,” was asked to be on Hee-Haw, and also asked to be on the Dean Martin Show. I learned so much from her and always loved singing with her growing up. After years of being a shower singer, I tried out for my high school talent show (first time ever singing in front of others that were not my family) and won the show. After that vote of confidence, I tried out for “American Idol” and received the golden ticket to Hollywood. In 2020, I tried out for “The Voice” and was on Team Gwen. Such a great experience but still pushing forward in the music industry. And later moving to Nashville to finish out my college degree and to finish my EP with an indie label, I’ve been working on new music and battling the music industry. Every day is difficult. Some are easier than others, but most days are hard and filled with constantly searching for motivation to keep working on my passion. In the music industry, the cliché quote of “You only need one yes to change your life,” is something I live by and feel every day. Because in order to get to that one yes, you have to receive nearly 1000 no’s as well. But that yes always makes it all worth it. You truly only get out what you put in.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many places to see in Nashville, a week is definitely not enough time!
First day, I would definitely show them Broadway, so we can get it out of the way (ew, but a must see), and then bring them to Lonnie’s Karaoke Bar, because you never can go wrong with karaoke.
Second day, I’d bring them to Opryland, then hit up the mall and see a movie, then go to a show at the Grand Ole’ Opry.
Third day, go on a hike around Radnor Lake, get some great BBQ at Jack Cawthorn’s BBQ, and show them a great spot downtown for jazz music (Skull’s Rainbow Room).
Fourth day, show them 12th Ave. South and Hillsboro Village.
Fifth day, we’d relax and have a chill day in watching tv, and play some card games (which I would win).
Sixth day, we’d go to the best restaurant in Nashville (insanely expensive) Deacon’s New South, then go down to Printer’s Alley and listen to some live music.
And the last day, I’d bring them to a show at the Ryman and get some Jeni’s ice cream right afterwards.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my parents. My parents have been extremely supportive and constantly push me, are very excited, and want me to always for my dream and what makes me happy. Shoutout to the best and most supportive parents in the world.
