Meet Lara Janicello | CEO & Founder of LA SINGLES

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lara Janicello and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lara, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My business is all about bringing people together in a world of phones, apps, and high expectations. I started it to create a space where singles could connect in person, knowing everyone’s there for the same reason. I think in-person events for singles are incredibly important in our day and age—it’s not just about finding dates, it’s also about meeting new people and making friends. When I started this, I was the only single person in my friend group, which made it tough to do single things with them. That’s actually why I created my wristband system:
💚 If you are SINGLE, you’ll wear a GREEN wristband.
💛 If you’re unsure or in an OPEN RELATIONSHIP, you’ll wear a YELLOW wristband.
❤️ If you’re DATING and there to support your single friends, you’ll wear a RED wristband.
Most of all, I want people to feel comfortable and have fun. Being single doesn’t have to be serious—just show up, be yourself, and see what happens.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What makes my events different is that they’re meant for real LA people looking to connect. I got tired of the fake scenes and endless swiping on dating apps, so I decided to create something where people can meet face-to-face. I truly believe that even if someone’s not your usual type based on looks, talking in person can open doors to meeting some amazing people. And having 100-200 singles at one event gives everyone way more chances to connect!
What also sets me apart from other singles events is that you can bring your coupled friends along as your support system, which is why I created my wristband system. No more showing up solo—bring someone who can help you feel comfortable and have fun!
Also, being a woman, I wanted a safe, trusted place to meet people. And since I’m all about time efficiency, having one event with a bunch of potential dates sounded like the perfect way to make the most of my time—just once or twice a month, no need for endless searching. But just like on dating apps, you’ve got to keep putting yourself out there—meeting someone on the first try isn’t a guarantee, but the more you show up, the better the chances!
When I launched, I had no experience—just a dream and a “why not?” attitude. Let me tell you, the journey hasn’t been easy. In the beginning, some events only had 20–50 people show up, and I quickly learned just how tough it can be to get something off the ground. I faced a lot of challenges, like brand deals falling through and people trying to take advantage of me. There were definitely moments where I wondered if I was doing the right thing. But, you know what they say—if it was easy, everyone would do it.
I’ve always had a “just do it” attitude—no risk, no reward. So, no matter how tough it got, I kept reminding myself why I started. I knew that what I was building was something people needed, and I believed in my vision. It wasn’t smooth sailing, but as time went on, the events started to grow, and I realized that all those challenges were just part of the process. The challenges will always keep coming, but that’s okay. With each one, I get stronger and more determined to make this work. Every hurdle is just another opportunity to learn and grow. It’s been a wild ride, but honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing.
One of my proudest moments was seeing one of my events featured on Vanderpump Rules (Season 11, Episode 11). It was such a rewarding milestone and a reminder of how far this idea has come.
At the heart of it all, my mission is to create a space where people feel welcome, comfortable, and genuinely excited to connect. Everyone comes in with their hopes and expectations, and my goal is to help reignite that hope and make meaningful connections feel possible again.
As I head into year two, I couldn’t be more excited to see what’s next. Each event keeps growing and getting better, and I’m crossing my fingers to hear even more stories about people finding love—or at least meeting someone amazing to date. And if not, hopefully, make some great new single friends along the way! This is just the beginning, and while I’m still learning as I go, I can’t wait to see what the future holds!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m all about that old Hollywood charm and amazing views, so I’d probably hit up spots like the Roosevelt or Sunset Tower or grab dinner at Dan Tana’s. But honestly, there are so many hidden gems in LA; it’s all about finding those cool little places. We’d drive down the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu for some stunning views and maybe hike up the Santa Monica Mountains if we’re feeling active. And if we’re in the mood, we’d catch a sunset at Griffith Park. To wrap things up, we’d hit the Comedy Store for some laughs and legendary stand-up.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I truly believe that you have to be your own biggest supporter because, in life, I’ve learned that nobody can do it for you but yourself. I’ve worked really hard—and still do—to keep improving my events. That said, I’m lucky to have an amazing support system in my life, including my mom, sister, best friend Brooke, and boyfriend Rob. They make all the difference, especially during tough times or those moments when you feel like giving up. Just keep going and stay consistent—that’s my attitude. So thank you, I love you!
