Meet Laraine Li | Animator & Animation student

We had the good fortune of connecting with Laraine Li and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laraine, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal for my career, I believe, is to achieve inner fulfillment. When I chose to pursue animation, whether in film animation or in game animation, it was to contribute to the exploration and development of the entertainment industry. In reality, I don’t want to limit myself to continually advancing in just one field; I prefer to explore every area I’m interested in trying. It could be film or something else, until I reach the level of satisfaction in exploration that I believe is the endpoint of my career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It feels like my current experiences aren’t yet enough to speak of achievements and challenges reached. Mostly, I’ve been striving in learning and challenging myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend were to visit Los Angeles for a week, I think I would take her to the beach and some iconic landmarks. Additionally, the café scene in Ktown is great, so I’d probably come here to relax and chat, and we’d explore some delicious Korean food since there are many famous eateries here. Then, I’d take her to the Chinatown area to taste some food and shop at the supermarkets. I think I’d also take her on a road trip to nearby areas, like Irvine and San Diego, to experience the local scenery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person I’m most grateful to in my profession right now is Bea Qian. Firstly, it was through her recommendation that I got this interview. Participating in her Capstone project enabled me to exchange and learn a lot. It wasn’t just about professional knowledge but also about things beyond the scope of my profession. I’m also very grateful that when I needed help and improvement the most, there was someone willing to guide me and lend me a hand.
