Meet Larry Ulrich | Actor, Writer, Director, Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Larry Ulrich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Larry, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal is to have a library of impactful programming such as movies, TV shows, reality shows, and documentaries for the world to see on the Ulrich Studio platform. The Ulrich Studio platform will be a streaming service for billions to enjoy in the comfort of their homes.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an artist, I create stories that have never been told before, but they have a major effect on specific communities. Examples of stories range from a disabled individual competing in a “normal” world looking for equality, a battered husband suppressing his pain to avoid public humiliation, the pressure of competing in physique competitions under the duress of taking enhancements, and experiencing life and death through the lens of a non-believer.
Getting to this level at this point in my career was not easy. I still have a long way to go. Since I moved to Los Angeles in 2007, I have heard the word “No” more times than my own name. “No” has included: no agent, no manager, no audition, and no distribution. Prayer is my method to overcoming these challenges — sharing thanks for where I currently find myself and thanks towards my final destination. Of course, never giving up and finding an alternate route is always a tactic to overcome challenges.
The main lesson I have learned and that want I share with others is do the work yourself. Stop depending on agents, managers, and casting directors to provide validation or the perfect opportunity. Doing the work yourself includes writing, editing, casting, producing, directing, and acting.
When audiences hear the name Larry Ulrich, they will know the content will be impactful, inspiring and truthful. Audiences will always leave my films either feeling better about themselves or inspired to change others to feel better about themselves. Lastly, my brand is always quality not quantity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To truly enjoy Los Angeles, I would take them to all the beaches, the mountains and the best restaurants. The beaches will include Santa Monica Pier, Marina del Rey, Playa del Rey, Venice Beach, Malibu, Manhattan Beach and Newport Beach. The mountains would include Runyon Canyon Park, Griffith Park and a long ride up the I-15 toward Las Vegas. Lastly, I would ask them what foods they have not eaten before and we would eat at those best restaurants. Most friends that visit from other states usually never had the following foods: Thai, Jerusalem, Mediterranean, Korean BBQ, “real” Chinese Sushi, Brazilian Steakhouses, Jamaican, Belizean and gourmet pizza.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The people listed have played a vital part in my success not only as a filmmaker but as a human being. I would like to thank: First and always God Almighty and Jesus Christ, Edward Morrison, Sylvia Hill, Henry Hill, Eric Douglas, Davidra Sanja, Carlene Rowe, Sandra Evers-Manly, John Forbes, Black Hollywood Education Resource Center, Films with a Purpose and my Texas family.
