We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTasia Floyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaTasia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At the age of 10, I was deeply inspired by dance shows like “So You Think You Can Dance,” “America’s Best Dance Crew,” and “Born to Dance.” However, I couldn’t find a nearby studio that offered the hip hop and commercial dance styles I desperately wanted to train in. I continued to follow my dance dreams by teaching myself through online dance tutorials, joining my high school dance team, and studying dance in college. Although, I didn’t get to experience what it felt like to be apart of a dance studio, this fueled my journey to providing a quality dance studio experience for my community.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our dance studio isn’t just about teaching dance; it’s about nurturing our core values and mission, which is to empower our youth with the audacity to dream big and achieve their wildest aspirations. We instill confidence in our students, equipping them with the self-assurance to tackle any challenge. Additionally, we emphasize the power of discipline and hard work through creative incentives like our Dancer of The Month program. But what truly sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to hip hop dance. We cater to all hip hop dance lovers, offering them the opportunity to train in the style they’re most passionate about.

We take immense pride in witnessing the transformation of our dancers as they experience a surge in confidence, thanks to the love and motivation they receive from our dedicated coaches and their peers. Our motto, “Dancing Builds Confidence, and Confidence is The Key to Success,” encapsulates the essence of our mission.

This journey was anything but easy. I stand where I am today because I refused to give up, no matter how tough it got. Entrepreneurship often feels like you’re navigating treacherous waters, with moments of self-doubt and challenges that can bring you to tears – I’ve certainly had my fair share of shower cries! As an entrepreneur, the weight of it all falls on your shoulders, and there’s no safety net when you stumble. The key is to keep moving forward, learning from every setback, and applying those lessons along the way.

I found my way through the challenges by constantly seeking knowledge, honing my skills, and surrounding myself with like-minded individuals who are unafraid of putting in those long, grueling 16-hour days. It’s true that iron sharpens iron, and being in the right company can make all the difference.

The lessons I’ve learned on this journey are invaluable. I’ve discovered that pursuing your dreams often means forging a unique, uncharted path. It’s scary not to have a guide map, but it’s also incredibly empowering to create your own way, one that’s tailored to your strengths and aspirations. I’ve learned that finding what makes you special, refining it, and sharing it with the world is the key to success. Not everyone will understand or support your vision, but you should never compromise your authenticity for them. Your vibe attracts your tribe.

I want the world to know that it’s not only okay but absolutely fantastic to be unapologetically yourself. If you’re a bundle of energy, radiating confidence, and spreading love wherever you go, you’re just like me! Some people might think you’re taking up too much space, but those who matter will be inspired by your audacity. It’s your uniqueness that makes you shine, and your passion can inspire others to embrace their individuality too. So, never be afraid to be the extraordinary, vibrant, and confident person you are.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, to kick off an amazing week with my best friend, I’d first take them to our dance haven, Dance Beast Studios. We’d turn up the music and dive into a fun private dance lesson, showing them some grooves and moves.

After a lively dance session, we’d stroll down the street to my go-to place for a quick recharge, Starbucks. “Can I get an iced matcha latte with coconut milk and a side of expresso!”

And what’s a memorable week without a house party? We’d head back to my place, where the real party starts, with my husband jamming on the drums!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my mom, Angela. From the very outset of my journey, she has been my unwavering support system and spokesperson. Angela selflessly sacrificed and prioritized my dance activities during my childhood. Today, she continues to stand by my side, tirelessly helping me navigate the challenges and always extolling the wonders of our dance community. She is, without a doubt, the best mom one could hope for, and her support means the world to me. Thank you, Mom!

Secondly, I’d like to extend my deep appreciation to my husband, Robert, who has been an extraordinary business partner, fully dedicated and committed to our shared vision. Our partnership is a perfect synergy; I bring the enthusiasm and energy, while he brilliantly transforms my ideas into concrete plans for the future. Robert, you are my running mate in life and business, and I couldn’t be more thankful for your unwavering support.

Lastly, I must acknowledge my high school dance teacher, Mr. Medal. His unique, grand, and passionate style left an indelible mark on my high school dance experience. His teaching methods and the way he approached dance significantly influenced my own approach to both dancing and teaching. Thank you for your dedication as a dance teacher and for creating countless cherished memories that continue to inspire my journey.
