We had the good fortune of connecting with Lex Macon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lex, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Being from an Isolated place like the Inland Empire can pose a lot of challenges when trying to accomplish certain goals. Its really easy to get complacent. I was born in San Bernardino Ca, but was raised thought the consortium known as the I.E.
I was completely unaware of how big the world was, which is why I’m so curious about growth and development; especially within my craft. It wasn’t until I moved to Atlanta for school where I learned more about not only my heritage, but about people from different walks of life. This has impacted my visual expression so much.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is unique because everything is created from my perspective. Im a firm believer that theres nothing new under the sun. You can take experiences that aren’t yours and make them your own, I love this with visual art.
There is a lot of trial and error, and growth is inevitable, as so long as you are consistently pursuing it. I didn’t get here by accident, and I am positive that I am far from where im heading, but consistency and diligence has gotten me through it all.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since im not the most social human being on the planet, I like to keep it chill. We’d probably hit the highlight room, or some dope rooftop where we can sit, catch up, and vibe out
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In no way shape or form would I be here without my mother. It was because of her guidance and structure that I have been able to make sound decisions when it comes to life. She’s equipped me with everything I need to succeed. She opens my eyes to so many frequencies and vibrations, and this dedication is especially for her.
I have a huge support system and would be here all day typing names of people who push me to be better, but no one deserves more of a shout than her.
