We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Girone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
This question is always tricky for me.

I was born in Como, Italy, and right after my first year of life my parents started moving around the country for work and I’ve always traveled since I was an infant.

I would say that I’m from Terni, a small city near Rome.

I lived most of my life there but I don’t really feel my roots belonging to a specific place.

This made a huge impact in my current life where I’m still traveling, a lot, but without feeling that deep connection with home and my heritage.

For an actor is extremely important to celebrate who you are and your differences.

It took me a few years to realize that.

When I moved to New York for my studies in Musical Theatre I was always trying to hide my Italian accent, my loud laughs and my big wavy hands while I’m talking.

This put me in a position of neglect, trying to be someone else, selling a fake brand.

Now I live in the UK and the more I live here, the more I see how diversity gets celebrated.

Being different is a gift that brings curiosity and communication to the table.

Sharing different cultures means learning how to love, respecting each other.

It also means authenticity as an actor and being truthful to who you really are.

Now my auditions are not about my weird accent anymore.

They are about my statement of acceptance that makes me a whole new person.

I’m made of a long life, powerful and cultured heritage that I can show off with no shame.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an actress and singer.

I tell stories so people can feel entertained and reach their own catharsis made of the healing process for their souls.

My purpose is to connect with people and feel that emotional bond that humans forget often due to stress and routine.

My life is a product of making brave choices and lots of mistakes of course.

I believe that our learning process starts from failure and that changes the way we see this concept.

I stand with the misfits and the real struggle everybody deals with, on a daily basis.

Interesting art forms come from vulnerability, the inner strengths everybody has, and the belief in a better life.

Whether you are a stand-up comedian or a pop singer, what creates a connection between you and the audience is the “I can relate” thought.

We all are in the same boat, the difference is that artists celebrate what life makes you feel ashamed of.

Curiosity and hard work are the pillars of any outstanding performance.

I had lots of people telling me what was best for me in the past, but I always followed my real needs as an artist and I’m proud of that.

I’m very excited about my international studies, the people I met so far, and my aspirations.

I’m preparing new material to send to agencies at the moment because I’m aiming for professional, high-quality jobs and productions.

I’m up for any collaborations that deal with what I’m passionate about.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not gonna lie, my best friends and I have lots in common and I think they would enjoy live Irish folk music,

theatre shows, cabaret nights, and a few sleepovers with video games, movies from the 90’ies and popcorn.

We are a nerd/geek legacy and we enjoy art and culture to its maximum level.

I would say that museums and botanic gardens are a big yes too!

Daily trips to the Northern Ireland Coast (that’s where I live now) are a must!

Nature always brings us back to art, and it’s sort of a great way to reconnect with our inner spirit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wish I could write the full list of the people that made a huge impact in my life. There are so many!

I think that what’s important to say the most is that someone can be an example for you when they are succeeding as much as when they are failing.

Being surrounded by colleagues and friends that fight for their dreams every single day, who keep going no matter what is one of the most inspirational teachings I’ve ever had.

My mentors helped me blossom and they saw my potential before me, that’s why I’m also into coaching. I think it’s a privilege to see and witness the growth of an artist and a human being.

My family is the reason why I’m here. They accepted who I am, my needs, and they root for me, no matter the distance that keeps us apart for the most part of the year.
