We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LAURA, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk taking is everything. I moved from Washington DC to Miami to pursue my career in hair styling, then from Miami to LA. Coming to LA was a major risk because its all the way across the country, its expensive and it can be hard to make it here. I faced some challenges in the beginning but everything fell in to place. I can truly say anytime ive taken a risk my life has changed for the better

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am hairstylist and hair colorist who focuses on naturally curly and textured hair. I actually went to college even though I always had a love for hair and fashion. After graduating college I went to hair school. I believe my best quality is being able to learn things quickly. The biggest challenges have been having to keep up with constant changing trends in the beauty industry, hard physical labor & having an unconventional job that does not include benefits
, pto etc. Although being an entrepreneur means you have to be the best at what you do to provide those things for yourself. I want to world to know that I am dedicated to my craft and as a small creator you can still position yourself to be successful and to get recognition

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting I would most definitely take her to the beach preferably manhattan beach and check out the farmers market, then head to abbot kinney in venice for some shopping. I would choose to eat lunch on the beach preferably anything involving seafood. I would also make an evening stop at bar flores in echo park for drinks and tacos.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give credit to my grandmother. She always did things women dont typically do. She played basketball, she was one of the first female real estate agents In her town, she mowed the lawn. She taught me that I could do anything and she was very supportive of my hair career and helped me get thru cosmetology school.
