We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Pakasaar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am a dancer, choreographer and also a teacher. Dance career brings a lot of creativity and art into my life, however, I have never asked this question from myself before. I started dancing when I was very little and I grew up with it. Dance has always been my biggest passion and as cheesy as it sounds, I could not imagine living without it or doing anything else. I love the freedom of it, I love the way it makes me feel and express myself, also, I love the hunger to learn and improve my skills every single day. It is also a career with high risks, challenges and struggle, but you just have to find the beauty in the struggle and seek the lessons you can learn and benefit from. I would never choose another career and if I had to, I would choose dance over and over again.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a dancer, I think what sets me apart from others is that I don’t want to be or look like any other artist. I have my own style, my own look and I stay true to it. I get inspired by other dancers and artists a lot, but I think the most important thing is to stay loyal and trust yourself. All I learn from other professionals I watch, save, practice and then add my flavor to everything to make it my own.

Where I am today, came through a lot of consistent hard work, numerous dance classes, teaching and travel. I would not say it was easy, but I have always had the passion that helped me to overcome the challenges life threw at me.

One lesson for sure is that always do more than you do. It is not just a saying that “hard work pays off”. It really does, trust me!
The message I want to give out is that it does not matter what your background is or where you from. If you want it you go for it, if you want it and don’t go for it, you do not want it. Easy, isn’t it?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would give a shoutout to every dancer in the world! The support system dancers have is so strong and I feel it every day by getting messages, emails, comments, that really motivate and inspire me to work hard and keep going no matter what. Also my family, friends and people who follow me need a big shoutout because without their support I would not be where I am today.
