We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Sala and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by a multitude of things, ranging from cinema and photography to fashion and paintings. However, I believe that the abundance of information available to my generation can be both a blessing and a curse. While it can be overwhelming at times, it also offers a unique perspective. The sheer volume of images accessible to us allows for a depth of understanding and viewpoints that were previously unattainable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art encompasses a variety of work; I function as a filmmaker, photographer, and production designer. I’ve always had a passion for creating worlds, and I’m grateful to say that it’s now my profession. Whether it’s crafting characters, weaving stories, creating moodboards, or designing sets, the creative process is truly fulfilling.

My journey began in Spain, and since relocating to the US, it’s been a non-stop adventure. Undoubtedly, it’s been a challenging but incredibly rewarding path where Ive been able to colaborate and meet extaordinary artists.

I’ve had the opportunity to work as a Production Designer for “The Ebro Show” video with Doja Cat by Apple Music, an Old Spice commercial starring Ronny Chieng, a Sony Music commercial with the prominent Jazz musician Pasquale Grasso, and as the Set Dresser for the Samsung Holiday Campaign starring Sabrina Carpenter. Additionally, I served as the photographer for photoshoots featuring models Julia Horrillo from Muse models and Natalie Turner from Fenton models. My photoshoot “CJ” was published by the distinguished Dutch magazine “Mirror, Mirror Magazine.”

I’m excited to share that my latest work, a fashion film and photoshoot that I shot and directed for the Spanish musician and model Danny Herrerías, which will be published by the end of January.

The intricate landscape of my field has taught me a valuable lesson – readiness for any challenge and the resilience to overcome them. It’s about facing uncertainties with a well-prepared mindset while staying open to finding solutions. This blend of preparation and adaptability has become a cornerstone of my artistic journey.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to visit the art galleries in Chelsea, grab lunch in Korea Town, and then go to BAM to watch a movie or a play. The next day, I would take them to somewhere upstate New York. I love nature, but unfortunately, I don’t get to visit it as often as I would like to, so that would be the perfect excuse for a fun day in nature.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to extend a shoutout to Vicente Roxas, who has been my cinematographer for a considerable period, contributing to the majority of my projects. His unique perspective and precise understanding align perfectly with the vision I strive to convey.

Additionally, I want to recognize Heidi Russel and her organization IWAS for their efforts in bringing together women in the arts. Your dedication is truly commendable.

A special shoutout goes to all the incredible artists I’ve had the privilege of working with in the past years. Thank you for sharing something so special with me and allowing me to create meaningful projects alongside you.
