We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Anthony and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, what are you inspired by?
Things I see daily that invoke emotion and memories of things prior. Those things spark an idea and I bring the idea to life. I tend to lead more towards sport-inspired graphics because of my background in skateboarding and hockey.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A lot of what I create stems from my background growing up playing hockey and skateboarding. I want to bridge or fuse those influences together into something with my touch. Growing up as a Black male in the Midwest, I wasn’t like a lot of people so those memories and things that I saw and learned, all play a role in what I create today. It’s never been easy, but those obstacles are just things that happen that force you to learn and adapt. Find lessons in everything and use those to evolve. I want the world to know that just because you come from a small town, doesn’t mean that you can’t do something big. I want to use my brand to tell my story to kids that had similar upbringings to me. I’m proud of the things that I’ve done and that makes me excited for the things that I will do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA has so many places and different vibes within the city. If we’re talking a Friday afternoon; start at a cool dive bar like La Cita downtown, then head to The Falls on Spring St, they always play good rap music and have a movie on the projector. Saturdays start with lunch at a walk-up pizza window, Ghost on Melrose, and then hit EP&LP for the rooftop. A good rooftop spot in LA is clutch and they have to play good music. Good music is important for the vibes.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The people who have helped me along the way, know exactly who they are and know that I’m very grateful to have their support and help on this journey.
