We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Fejarang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I know to keep going on a project if I’m still learning and finding new things with it. As far as my career, I keep going because I know when I’m not being an artist/not making work, I get unhappy and stressed. The things that give you joy, curiosity and push you are ultimately the things that keep you going. If a an artwork I’m working on just doesn’t feel right, or I know I’ve exhausted all attempts at making something work, I know then to give up on the piece.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make sculpture, specifically work in concrete and industrial materials. I’m most proud of not giving up haha – after grad school it’s hard to stay in the studio and maintain an art community with support of your practice. Like anything worth pursuing, there is hard work and persistence involved, and it’s easy to not want to put the effort in sometimes. I’m also proud of my curatorial practice as well as my body of work I’ve created over my professional career. I’m lucky to have a studio and make time for my work while also curating shows for a gallery I help run called Super Dutchess in NY.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Also giving a big shoutout to Jon Augustavo & Andrew Woolbright who have always stuck with me during my career journey, pushing me along the way! 🙂
