We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Grabois Fischer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, what matters most to you?
As a mom, teacher, and children’s book author, my values have been a huge part of why I’ve chosen to share my words with the world. I have always been a dreamer. I believe in the good in people and dream for a kind world for everyone. After becoming a mom, I decided that I wanted to combine my passion for writing with my passion for making the world a better place for all children to grow up in. I started my company “The Be Books” in hopes of teaching children (and their parents) to “be kind, be respectful, be accepting, be brave, be grateful, be you.” I currently have seven published books that all empower and inspire children to be the good in the world. I was raised to be kind to every living being. I was raised to respect others and work hard for what you want. I was raised to contribute to the positive energy in this world. Through my books, I am able to contribute in a positive way to our present and our future. What matters most to me? That people are able to be themselves and be happy and welcomed by all. That my children and all children can grow up in a world that welcomes diversity and believes in love.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Okay. Let me introduce myself. I am Lauren Grabois Fischer the founder and author behind The Be Books series. I write picture books for children in hopes of empowering and inspiring them to be kind, accepting, respectful, positive, and grateful. It is my hope that through creating Social Emotional Learning books, that I can help create a healthier world for all children to grow up in. I want everyone to feel welcomed and loved and sharing these ideas in books makes me feel like I am doing something to help. I currently have seven books with my eighth book coming summer 2021. My current books include: Be Who You Were Meant To Be, You Are A Superhero, Every So Often A Zebra Has Spots, Love Grows Love, The Light Within Me, LIFE, and The Zoo’s Big News. The ABC’s to a Mindful Life will be available summer 2021.
What sets me apart from other book series? My focus is emotional health. My focus is on bettering the world. As a teacher, I know that simplicity is important but depth is equally important. So I combine the two and provide deep and meaningful messages in simplistic ways for children to understand. When you pick up one of my books, you are ensuring a positive experience with your child. My books not only include the stories, but they include additional workpages for parents and teachers to begin having deeper and more meaningful discussions. All of my paperback and hardcover books include Activity Pages and Inspiration/Discussion Pages that include conversation starters which can be turned into mini lesson plans.
Are there challenges in becoming a self published author? YES! Becoming an “author” is the easy part. Write a book, hire an illustrator, bring your idea to life, and share it with others. The hard part in self publishing is getting the word out there. For me, my heart and soul is in it because I want to see a better world. Wishing that my books could be in every school in the world? Yes, that’s a dream that I have. I know that everything takes hard work, dedication, and time. I am on social media all of the time sharing positive quotes and good vibes. If there is any lesson that I have learned it is to be patient and to be confident in what you do. If you believe in something, don’t be afraid to speak up and share it. Because there are others out there wanting to make a difference too. And when you find others with the same goals, it makes the journey more fun.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One word: the beach. To me sitting by the ocean and watching the waves is EVERYTHING. I get inspired and I get grounded. Having lunch outdoors with the wind blowing is peaceful and perfect. Combine that with good conversation from my best friend… I am in! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dream could not become a reality without the support and love from my husband, Michael. Michael knew how passionate I was about creating literature for children. He is the one that lit the fire and made it happen.
I also want to thank my family. I’ve been lucky to have a supportive family who has taken the time to read my endless poetry and stories that I have written. My grandpa Joe has been a pivotal person in my life. He always found the time to read my creations and was the one always telling me to publish my work. My book “LIFE” is dedicated to him and he happens to be the main character in it. Sadly, I lost my grandpa in October 2020. The kindness and love in my heart, that comes from my Grandpa and from my mom. I am grateful for them.
