We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The last corporate job I held I had to change my ethnicity on my application for them to look past my race and read my skills and what I could possibly contribute to the company. After successfully landing that job and then being turned down for a promotion that was given to someone with less experience than me but a different race I knew after all that I needed to created my own Business and create my own opportunities, and stop looking to someone else. I knew I wanted to eventually grow this Business so big that I was able to help other Women who have been turned down due to the color of their skin Crete their own endless possibilities.

What should our readers know about your business?
I created Divine Virtual Assist which originally started as me being a direct Virtual Assistant to others in their small business, however most recently I have decided to grow this to much more!

Under Divine Virtual Assist we will soon be launching a hands on course to teach other women how to overcome work place racism and create their own opportunities as a Virtual/ Personal Assistant. We will also be bridging the gap between Small Business owners and Virtual Assistant by bringing them together without the added. We will be acting like a agency in the sense that we will train the Virtual Assistant, Vet them and then match them the Business Owner and everyone is happy. We have also thought about that Business Owner that is not ready to commit to the monthly cost of a Virtual Assistant by creating a very special First of its time program.

Getting where I am today was not easy! My whole life the cards have been stacked against me but I have a no excuse mentality! I don’t give up. Creating my own Business has taught me not everyone will understand and not everyone will support you, but you have to remember only you can make or break your Business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well because I’m a goody, my birthday is in October and my favorite holiday is Halloween they would definitely be visiting in October which means we would:

We would eat at Bestia ( I have a waeakness for Italian Food)
Mes Amis
Workshop Kitchen and Bar

Of course visiting Haunt O Ween and Haunted Hayride.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This might seem like a typical response but seriously my Husband! I have no family and after losing most friends during an Abusive Relationship he is really my biggest supporter.

When I originally brought my Business Idea to him he immediately supported me, bought me a Tablet and helped me figure out the numbers and what next moves I should make. Every step of the way he has guided me, cheered me on, lifted me up during the hard days and always pushed me to keep doing this.
