We had the good fortune of connecting with Lawrence Ricks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lawrence, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
My thought process was simple, I wanted to help others achieve what I was achieving. I know in the industry I’m in it can be hard to breakthrough, so I simply wanted to show others the path I’ve taken to be successful.

I do have a budget!! My main goal is to sustain my family and I off of passive income from the business. At the moment I still work a 9-5 but a lot of those resources are put back in the business.

Taking a risk is apart of the game! I feel in order to get to the next level in whatever you do, you have to take some risks. I remember in 2017 there was certain information that I needed to be successful and to make my dreams come true. It was an investment I HAD to make but at the time I didn’t have the money. It was a risk because there was no guarantee that I would be successful, but I’m glad I took that risk. That information I learned has kept me up until now and has helped me thrive in my field!

I’m from NYC! I was raised in a loving 2 parent home and they raised us in church. My parents taught us to be respectful, to have morals, to stand on your word, and to always trust God. Being raised in church I started playing drums at 7 years old. At 14 years old I started to play the piano and eventually became the musician at my church (which I’m still today).

Honestly, the most important factor behind my success is just trusting and having faith in God! Being in the right place at the right time, and connecting with the right people to help elevate my brand. Those are things I prayed about and was able to see come to fruition!

The value that matters to me most is having integrity! I believe in “you reap what you sow” so having integrity and being a honest person goes a long way to some of the blessing that may come back to you.

Well being a new father, work life balance has changed a lot! Now I’m able to schedule my days to where I’m able to balance all of my responsibilities evenly. Some days may be harder than others but with being a father/husband/business owner/ and having a regular job I have to balance everything to where I’m not missed anywhere.

My end goal is to be able to turn my business over to my children. Leaving them a legacy from something I started is the goal and that will be an honor to do.

The reason why I pursued an creative career is because I love it! Being able to create music and hear my music getting placed on Tv is a wonderful feeling. Being able to help others get their music on tv is an even better feeling. Helping people and their dreams come true is a blessing and it’s something that I love to do!

There’s a book called Pray. Focus. Plan. Execute: by grammy nominated music producer S1. It details his story and the path he endured to make it to where he’s at now. It’s encouraging for music producers like myself because it shows with a little faith and patience I too can be successful!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Having a music library for sync licensing is not an easy task. First thing first is the music has to be right! What makes us different from other libraries is we meet every week and make sure your music is formatted right, mixed right, and overall 100% ready. Doing this takes a lot of time and effort but it is all worth it! Once we feel the music is ready we go to the next part and send them to our contacts. One of our contacts is through APM, which is one of the biggest music library in the world. Where mostly all music supervisors and music editors get their music from. With K.B.L.R Music Group securing a solid contact over there, our music is heard and placed all over the world!

I want to shoutout my business partner Kevin Barnes! We created a music library called K.B.L.R Music Group where we are helping hundreds of music producers get their music on tv! It’s something special to see!
