We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Jimenez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I love this topic! When I was in my early twenties I was scared to take risks. I had this idea ingrained in my head that I needed to have my entire life planned and figured out by the time I was 25. I believe I am not the only one who feels this way, we are taught by our senior year of high school to pick a career and go after it. There is so much pressure in those first few years of college to get your entire life in order. And it can feel overwhelming at times. Because of this, it can be scary to step outside the norm and take a chance. I thought if I took a risk that it could derail my whole future. This simply isn’t true. After going through some major changes in my life and some failures, I’ve realized that taking risks is imperative to our growth. We have to go after our dreams, we have to pursue what’s in our hearts, and we have to take risks. I started my business at 29 years old, I was part of an organization that I thought I’d be with for most of my life and then everything changed. I have my Bachelor’s Degree and I could have easily pursued a desk job, but I decided that I wanted to challenge myself to pursue what was in my heart. I love people, and connecting with them, so why not use the internet to do that? Why not create a place where I can encourage those around me? Was it a risky move to do at 29? Yes! But I did it anyway! I started this business with the mindset that I’d rather try it and fail, then look back 50 years down the road and realize I never tried at all. The truth is failure will most likely happen. But that’s ok! Each time we fail and get back up, we become a-little bit stronger and a-little bit wiser. Taking risks makes our lives fun and interesting. Chasing after the dreams inside of us can be scary but also completely fulfilling! We can’t be afraid to fail, who cares if we fail, we just get up and try again. If you have been putting off that dream in your heart because you’re scared to take a risk, I encourage you to go after it. There is no time like the present, and no matter the outcome I believe you will be happy that you stepped out and took that risk!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Leah Jimenez, I am 30 years old and I am a fashion and lifestyle blogger. My husband and I have been married for 7 years and we have a french bulldog named Chloe, who we love and spoil WAY too much! I started my blog a year and a half ago with one main intent, to use social media to build a community. I love fashion, makeup, and home decor, but even more than that I love encouraging people! My ultimate goal is to create a space where people feel seen, loved and encouraged. I want to remind others of the gold that is inside of them. I try to create space for open and honest discussion, so those around me feel comfortable to share what they really think. Creating an honest space isn’t always easy to do. You open yourself up to being vulnerable and it’s scary at first, there is always the risk of rejection. But I had to mentally overcome that fear and remind myself that everyone may not like what I have to say, but if it encourages one person then it’s worth it. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is to be 100% authentic. People gravitate towards authenticity! No one wants to get to know a fake person, and everyone can tell when you are being fake. Being genuine is so important, especially on the internet where so many people aren’t. While my page has fashion and lifestyle content, the vision behind everything is encouragement and empowerment. This is what I am most proud of. I love working with brands but at the end of the day, I started my business with the desire to lift up others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are A-LOT of amazing spots in LA, but most of mine revolve around food! My favorite breakfast spot is EggSlut, you will not find a better breakfast sandwich. For lunch I would go to Pine and Crane, everything they make is amazing, but the minced pork on rice is my fav. After that I would walk around Silver Lake, the weather is always amazing and there are cute shops to stop and look at. For a caffeine break I would stop by Tea Master, this shop in Little Tokyo has the best Matcha Lattes I’ve ever had, you may have to wait a bit because the line is usually out the door. Lastly, for dinner I would go to Slurpin Ramen, the “Tonkotsu” ramen is so savory and delicious!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are lots of people in my life that I am SO grateful for. I have wonderful parents and friends, I am very blessed. BUT I want to dedicate this shoutout to my husband. He continually encourages me to go after my dreams! He shoots all of my photos, helps me brainstorm new ideas, listens to all my concerns and lifts me up when I need it. All while running his own successful business. I could not ask for a better partner in my life, and I could not do this without him. He is my best friend, I love him SO much, and he deserves this shoutout!!
