We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Kitching and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have been a long time believer in manifestation and listening to my intuition. This has been so helpful in every aspect of both my life and my career, and I’m a big fan of calculated risks and green flags. When I visualize my future I make aligned choices that feel right in the moment. Starting my own business was a dream I had for years, and I believed I deserved no matter the obstacles in my way. Having the steadfast belief helped mitigate any risks and allowed me to find the opportunities to create my life and business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My pilates studio was born from a deep desire to help others. When I look back on how movement has been a source of such deep fulfillment, I realized it was the only way for me to create the perfect experience to share with others. There wasn’t much that was easy about it, I was 8 months pregnant with my daughter after having looked for over a year and finally signing a lease. I had zero marketing or sales experience, so I taught most of the classes with a 3 month old at home. The business was built step by step with grit, sacrifice, and consistency.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were planning a trip I would start at my home in Topanga. It’s a sanctuary! We would hike from Trippet Ranch out to Eagle Rock. For a gorgeous view. Then we would grab lunch at Topanga Living Cafe. The food there is excellent and all organic. Then we would head to Kinship Station, a local shop with unique and special treasures, followed by a drive to the beach for a quick dip and the sunset. Another day we would go into town for a pilates class at my studio. I’d probably take her to Pepe’s Thrifty Shop in Culver City, where I always find vintage treasures. Afterwards, we would head to Venice for some lunch at Zinque for some excellent food and likely run into someone we know. Then we might stroll down Abbott Kinney or hit the farmers market in Santa Monica for some things to pick up for dinner. We would head back up to Topanga and grab some wine from Canyon Gourmet and head home to cook a nice dinner.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my husband Mark Kitching. He has been my biggest supporter, and he has encouraged me to make big goals, challenge myself, and give myself credit for the successes in my life.
