We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Mizrachi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Back in 2021, I was faced with the decision of moving back to NYC (post covid) to return to in person work as a handbag designer at Madewell, or quit my job and start my own building business in Los Angeles. It was a hard decision to make. I was unsure if I wanted to close the door on my NYC chapter. In the back of my head I knew that if I didn’t do it now, I never would. So, the decision became clear to me pretty quick. JUST DO IT!!!

I was nervous, scared, unsure where to start. But, I had a little voice in the back of my head that kept saying don’t think so much, just start. You will figure it out as you go. Fast forward a year now, I would never have imagined how far I could come. I can’t wait to see where LEMIZ will be in 5 five more years!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
LEMIZ just turned a year old in January and I am incredibly proud of how much it has grown. Starting a business is far from easy. It’s scary and daunting, but so worth it. The biggest piece of advice I can give someone is CONSISTENCY. When you do something with consistency everyday, you see your work compound. Every morning I read through all the tasks I need to complete. Sometimes they are really big and other days they are smaller tasks like following up in emails etc. In the moment it doesn’t seem like I am making a big impact on LEMIZ’s growth, but as you keep putting in work, you start to see the wheels turn. It’s an incredible feeling to see how much you can accomplish in a year.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve only lived in LA for two years, but I can easily say that Malibu is my go to spot when I have visitors. I would spend a day hiking in Malibu then stop for lunch at the Malibu Country Mart and finish off the day with a beach walk on Carbon beach. There is something about carbon beach that is so magical.

For shopping, I would suggest the platform in Culver City. It’s a new outdoor mall with great restaurants and beautiful boutiques. I love popping in for lunch at Roberta’s (my favorite Pizza) and ice cream at Van Leeuwen. You can also stop by Teller to checkout LEMIZ bags!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Growing up, I saw my older brother build his own business EzPacking. He has always been an inspiration in showing me that if you work hard, put in the hours and are consistent you can build something incredible. He has pushed me to think bigger than I can imagine. He is constantly challenging me and motivating me to continue to do things outside my comfort zone. I think it’s really important to have that person who is always telling you to keep going.
