We had the good fortune of connecting with YO IT’S JOJO! and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi YO IT’S JOJO, what do you think about risk?
Taking a risk brings one outside of their comfort zone and brings a certain change into one’s life. When people hear or encounter the word “Risk” people feel uneasy and not safe. But growing up, risk is something that we all have done before. It’s everywhere. Whether we know about it consciously or not. For example, creating relationships. Whether they are platonic or romantic. That happens naturally and it’s part of life but people can either hurt you or empower you. It’s a double-edged sword. Many people choose to take the risk in creating relationships with one another for whatever reason.

Risk Taking has different levels. For example, the risk that I took was not going to college to pursue my dream as a Kpop Idol back in 2015 until 2018. Adding to that, I have traveled and lived alone in Korea without knowing the language, culture, and the practical process completely. Also having zero connections in the entertainment industry at the beginning. This is the tip of the iceberg of the many risks that I’ve taken in my life that some people may not choose to do even if it’s their dream.

Taking risks in my life journey led me to dig very deep to know more of who I am, learning how to become more independent, and see my growth as a person. Risk is everywhere. Risk leads to change. That is how you create your life story and live as you authentically. Even choosing to be authentic has some risks. But if I always play safe, I will always feel depressed and stay in the same place. Risk is part of life so what is life if you’re not living it?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Currently, I am a YouTuber and I’ve been on YouTube since 2009. My channel unites different cultures together by creating reaction videos to different Asian music. Some of the artists are from the Philippines, Indonesia, Korea, and etc. Music is a universal language that many people can connect through and that’s part of the reason why I love music. My goal for this channel is unity and hope that my videos could help others in their own life journey.

Around August 2020 is when I got more serious in building my channel. But growing up with YouTube, I started off with singing covers, then a lot of Kpop Dance covers, Traveling Vlogs, Kpop Dance Tutorial Videos, and now Reaction Videos. I still do a few of these videos today. In total, I’ve been on YouTube for 13 years.

I didn’t think much about it practically at the beginning other than my love for content creating. It’s like when a kid discovers a playground. They explore, play, and have fun. That’s what YouTube is for me. It’s satisfying to see the final, uploaded video after all the hard work that I put into it. I’m grateful that I encountered YouTube at a young age because it feels like it came to me naturally.

Of course as I become more serious about being a YouTuber and YouTube is evolving, it does have its challenges. There are some risks because it doesn’t pay you like a 9 to 5 job. You have to be very creative, be strong-willed, be strong-minded, and have an entrepreneur mindset to pursue this route. It also feels like I have to wear different kinds of hats. Meaning that I’m the producer, editor, marketer, and so much more. Despite its challenges and risks, it brought me happiness and light to my soul. It is helping me build and connect with my authentic self. Also it led me to collaborate, meet, and interact with different kinds of people around the world. I find that part really amazing and beautiful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve never been to Indonesia before but I would love to explore that place with my best friend. A lot of my subscribers are from Indonesia so they’ve been recommending places to me. As I connect more with them, I’ve been exposed to their culture and beautiful nature. Together with my best friend, I would love to have a peaceful, deep, and spiritual connection with the environment. I would also love to simply walk around, meditate, try out their spiritual rituals, go to the local shops, learn how to speak their language, talk with the locals, wear their traditional attire, learn more about their culture, and so much more. I’ve been a city girl for a long time so it’ll be nice to explore different locations in Indonesia. I feel it would help cleanse my soul and energy. Also deepened my bond with my best friend.

People exercise physically to have a healthy body but what’s equally important to that is having a healthy mind and spirit. It’ll create more balance into one’s life and help you see the world, the Universe, in a different light. You’ll experience a beautiful feeling as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I want to give a shout-out to Richard Mendoza, the Co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of Arca Via Studios. C-Tru, the co-founder, award-winning hip-hop recording artist, President & Chief strategic officer of Arca Via Studios.
Then Nate Calima, the Vice president of field operations of Arca Via Studios.
They all empower and encourage me to be the best version of myself by passing down their own valuable experiences and knowledge to me.
Together we are taking action in creating a positive change around us, achieving our mission, and uniting people together in this community.
Being with them makes me feel at home as they spark light and a meaningful purpose into my life.

Also shout-out to all of my loved ones; my supporters, close friends, and my mom for genuinely being there for me when I needed them. For also accepting, caring, and loving me unconditionally. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being by my side and having my back. I’m very grateful for all of you. We’re all walking this journey of life together so I will always do the same for all of you. I love you.
