We had the good fortune of connecting with Leandro Wu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leandro, how do you think about risk?
I think risk taking is a mandatory task that oneself has to do constantly in order to find new ideas, new things and new experience. Without risk taking, we just stay in our comfort zone and we are not allowing ourselves to become someone greater than we currently are, and sometimes we even receive a little bit of surprise he he. When I do my artwork, I’m always trying new things, new color palettes, new designs, new styles, and most of the time, I have no idea what I’m doing but one thing I know for sure is, if I don’t stay out of my comfort zone and avoid risk taking, my learning experience would be slow and dull.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Doing art is marvelous , because it makes us happy, and helps us visualize things that we can’t really see, escape from our daily routines, and spread out our imagination. The most exiting thing about doing art is definitely the freedom of imagination. You can be anything and do anything in that imaginative world you create! Isn’t that cool? I really didn’t know what to do after high school, but I found my way by doing art. So, I decided to California to purse my artistic career. It wasn’t easy for sure, but the only way is pushing through all the challenges, because giving up wasn’t an option. In my experience, I faced a lot of challenges, but I believe the most challenging one is the big battle against myself. As many other artists, we may think that we are not talented or good enough and we are not going places, and sometimes those negative thoughts can be really harmful and dangerous which leads you to give up on what you are doing. It is completely ok to feel that way. This is why having a strong mindset is so important, and this applies for everything we do in life. This is the biggest lesson I have learned in my career.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Disneyland is definitely a MUST. Take pictures with all the characters, get on all the rides, and buy everything in the store. Then the next day, I would take them to the grand central market in downtown LA to try different kind of food and then go to a boba shop to enjoy some drinks.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m very thankful for my family support and my dearest friends, and all the amazing teachers I’ve met during my career. Also, I’m very grateful for myself for working so hard and not giving up <3
