We had the good fortune of connecting with Leanne Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leanne, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I would have to say getting over the idea of fear and self doubt. I was extremely scared when I first started my baking business. I was scared I would not make sales or people would not like my work. Fear prolonged my business process. Until one day, I took that leap of faith and told myself I will not let fear slow me down with my business. I believe once you get over the idea of fear you can accomplish anything you desire to do. That courageous act will always lead you to success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Mable Cakes is based on tradition. Timeless recipes were passed down to me from my Great Grandmother Mable. I keep her memory going by recreating her original recipes. I specialize in custom cakes and other delicious desserts. Everything I create is from scratch with love! I am extremely proud of how far I’ve came with my decorating skills. It took a lot of work and practice to get where I am now . By me being a self taught baker , I definitely had to learn how to enhance my decorating skills independently. I always knew how to bake , but decorating was a huge challenge for me . That journey is definitely ongoing! I can never stop learning cake decorating techniques.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First things first we are definitely eating! First stop would be one of my favorite places which is Mama Por Dios! We would head to the beach to soak up the sun or take a hike at the Palos Verdes Bluffs Trails. If there is a NBA game going on at Crypto Arena , we would go to a Lakers or Clippers game! To end their visit off right we would head to Six Flags or Knott”s Berry Farm!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my Great Grandmother Mable. She is the reason I started my baking business. She is a huge inspiration to my journey!
