We had the good fortune of connecting with Leanne Naylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leanne, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I decided to start my own business, as I wanted to help people to sleep well and live well, without necessarily relying on medication. To often, I had seen in both my personal and professional life as mental health specialist, sleep either not being prioritised or medication being given rather than looking at the root cause of the sleep problem.

It was at this point, I decided to complete further training and focus on helping people who have poor sleep, but without any physiological reason for it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Leanne is an international bestselling author and an award-winning clinical lead within the NHS, a therapist, hypnotherapist, and sleep consultant, with over 15 years’ experience of working within mental health supporting both adults and children.
During this time, Leanne has seen first-hand how sleep is a key component to our mental well-being and overall functioning, through both her work within various mental health services and her own lived experience in which her own sleep issues once, greatly impacted her life.

This has led to her private international practice, focusing on helping people all over the world to repair their sleep behaviour so they can sleep well, to live well and feel more focused and energised,

In addition, Leanne is also the co-founder of happi-hub a lifestyle and wellbeing platform, as well as the group programme lead for the Creative well – An international organisation, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of those involved in the music industry and performing arts.

I am where I am, through completing various degrees/masters and overcoming my own adversity in terms of sleep and mindset, always learning – about myself and how sleep more often than not, is related to our mindset (when there isn’t a physiological reason). It took a lot of studying, both theory, practice and working on myself.

Was it easy to get here? No! I struggled with sleep issues on and off for years, in fact I didn’t even realise I had a sleep problem to being with, as it wasn’t a consistent issue and i was just ‘getting on with life’ as best I could. I didn’t realise the impact it was having.

The key lessons learnt:
1) Be aware of your sleep.
2) If you are not waking feeling refreshed, review your sleep, don’t ignore it.
3) Sleep underpins our entire wellbeing.
4) If you’ve tried all the lotions, potions and gadgets and you’re still not happy with how you’re sleeping, stop looking externally and look internally and come and talk with me.
5) Be aware of what you are consuming – environmentally and otherwise.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To the Van Gough immersive art exhibition and then to a lovely local restaurant – The pump room, which serves some of the most wonderful locally sourced food, here in Kent, with views of the river Medway and marina – and they serve great cocktails too. A drive or walk through the lovely Kent countryside, visit one of the various Kent beaches – Whitstable offer amazing Oysters and seafood.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is a difficult one…. I wouldn’t say there is 1 person or thing that has led to my success, rather a collective. However, a big shout out has to go to my gran (Patricia) whom without I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today. She has supported me through the good and not so good times, never judging or criticising and always supporting me, no matter what.

To all my wonderful clients for trusting in me and the process, to seek resolve.

My partner, for putting up with my crazy ideas…. 🙂

Last but not least, friends, colleagues, education and all my fellow collaborators I am currently working with – Nadine at the Creative well being one of them – such a wonderful soul and a project I am super excited to have joined.
