We had the good fortune of connecting with Russelynn Tubbs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Russelynn, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has completely changed since starting my business, while it is true about giving up a “9 to 5” just to work 24/7 for yourself (lol) I feel like I have more flexibility with my schedule and time for my family. I have the ability to take the time I need to recharge after a super busy wedding season or the craziness of Valentine’s Day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m always learning! I believe it’s super important to be a life long learner. In the floral design business things are always changing and it’s important to adapt and evolve to those changes and learn new ways of doing things or trying new styles. My clients come to me because they love my designs and style and know I’ll go above and beyond to style a beautiful event or wedding design for them.

I try to be different from other businesses in my area by offering products not found everywhere in town. Also I seek out other creators and small businesses and carry their products in my shop so I’m also supporting them as well.

I’m really proud of where I am and what I’ve created. I still have those pinch me moments like am I really doing this!?! It’s amazing to wake up and get to do what I love every day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lol well Carrollton has a lot of small town charm. So I would definitely recommend HOS coffee shop for delicious pastries and coffee or my personal favorite a blended caramel drink (yum!) they have a beautiful space with comfortable chairs perfect for catching up on conversations. Next would be to A PEACEful place where you can relax with a therapeutic massage or facial and pick up some essential oils.
General Butler State park for lunch at Two River’s Restaurant and a stop at observation point for a beautiful hilltop view of the town of Carrollton. There’s also plenty of hiking trails, mini golf, events and they are currently rehabbing the golf course now. Then we can hope on the trolley that will bring us down a scenic route into historic downtown where we could shop until we dropped at all of the local businesses like Blooms Floral Studio (of course) and so many more cute shops! And then dinner and drinks at Mi Viejo Mexican restaurant.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a small business owner I rely heavily on my family. My mom often assists with event preparations and set up for weddings. My dad and husband always lend a hand with deliveries and I’ve drug my dad to the occasional wedding set up when my mom was unavailable lol. I’ve been known to ask my sister to help out as well for high demand holidays such as Valentine’s Day. I really don’t know how I would do it all without their help!
