We had the good fortune of connecting with Leena Duwadi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leena, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Realization of the importance of spiritual health. I have been practicing Rajyoga meditation for a long time. Spending some time every day in silence helps me focus on things that matter.

Every moment I spend with myself is an investment towards better well-being. Spirituality helps us see people and situations from a wider perspective.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Writing is an art. The art of putting words together fascinates me a lot. I’ve been involved in writing for more than ten years now.

My readers/followers like my storytelling. Be it a simple and short social media caption, my blog, or any article that I write in the magazines I work for, the responses I receive excite me. I am proud of the career I chose.

I remember I decided to pursue the media industry when I was quite young. I got an opportunity to work for a radio station as a news presenter right after high school. After radio, I worked for a TV channel as a news anchor. My radio and TV life involved a lot of writing.

After TV, I worked for a few digital companies as a writer and editor. Now I work for magazines. I am originally from Nepal and spent a few years in India before moving to the US. Working for various forms of media in three different countries is quite an experience. Transitions were not easy, I had to work hard to build new skills every time I made a new move.

Self-trust, discipline, and hard work helped me excel in my career. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is – Have a clear vision for yourself and keep working for it. Nobody knows you better than yourself, so be with yourself even when you have nobody around to support and praise.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I love taking my family, friends, or any contacts to our meditation centers. We have a meditation center in San Francisco and a retreat center in Novato. The centers offer the best of the best experience. Experiential meditation, workshops, fun activities, food, etc., are the most unique things you’ll ever experience.

The center in Novato conducts ‘three-day silence retreats’ every year. If you live in California, silence retreats by Brahma Kumaris is something you can’t afford to miss.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Brahma Kumaris organization. I’ve been volunteering for this organization almost all my life. The ideologies of this organization have shaped my life and made me the person I am today.

The organization promotes a slogan – “World Transformation through Self Transformation.” When I change, the world inside me changes, and that further contributes to the change in the outside world.
