We had the good fortune of connecting with Lela Luster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lela, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The single most important decision that has contributed to my current success, and where I currently am in my career is a faith in myself.  That faith keeps me from not constantly comparing where I am with where others are, to know that I’m exactly where I should be in my career and to know without a doubt – I will be where I want to be in my career, within MY time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an actor and model. I’m really excited about the work I’m doing these days. There was a time where I was questioning every move I made in my career. These days, probably within the last couple of years, I’ve grown more confident in my acting and even my modeling which, started off as more of a hobby. I find that I can audition for a role and not get it, and still be really excited about the audition itself, because I got to ‘build my chops.’ I have to say, my posing has improved a lot as well – for something that was a hobby!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Disneyland, always! In between D-land would probably be the OC fair for a concert and the fair food! I would definitely take them downtown to the Grand Central Food Market, so that they could try a bunch of different foods! Of course, they’d probably want to do a beach, so we’d do Venice or one of the beaches in Malibu!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother. She CONSTANTLY pushes me, she is always in my ear reminding me what I’m doing ‘all this’ for. As with many other artist, and others in general, there are times where you just want to “run into the street…” She keeps me on track at those times. Those times where I feel my work isn’t good enough, where I’m so tired, but need to film those auditions, or get to that shoot, those times I tend to space! Thanks, Mommy!
