We had the good fortune of connecting with Len Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Len, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
This is a great question! I often ask myself this when things get tough and I can’t see clearly. The only conclusion I have come to is; Giving up is never an option.

It’s never an option because giving up only guarantees that what you are trying to accomplish will never happen. Sometimes hope is the only thing that can fuel you to keep going. I have learned from experience that even when I intentionally try and let go of my dreams they haunt me! They won’t let me rest when I try to put them to bed, they invade every corner of my mind until I acknowledge them. So I figure I have two options either keep going and see what happens or give up and torture myself by daydreaming about what could have been.

If you keep going you create endless possibilities for yourself! Because it can lead you to new opportunities and spaces that you would have not gotten to had you given up.

If you can shift your perspective to believe that everything somehow works for your good you can make it through anything!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an artist through and through! I have been singing since I was about 4 years old, which started in church. I also went to an arts high school where I studied Classical and Jazz music and went on to do the same in college before moving to Los Angeles to give my music career a real go!

I have been in Los Angeles for 10 years now by way of Cleveland, OH and the journey has been nothing short of complex. I have gotten 1000 no’s and a few yes’s but it has kept me going to see if there is more! I have learned that only the people with the tenacity to keep going despite the odds; are the ones who make it to purpose. It’s a long road but the scenery and stops along the way even the roadblocks make the journey exciting and worth finishing.

I recently changed my artist name from Terrance to Len Wilson. Len is my middle name and it means “Bold Lion” in german. I wanted to give myself permission to be that bold lion in my music and in life! The name Len has allowed me to take on a persona that I find myself straying away from at times because of insecurity. I started out in LA singing in churches and writing songs for worship teams and eventually found myself wanting to express more of my feelings. So I started writing R&B songs that capture my feelings as a whole.

The pandemic while horrific in so many ways freed me from the box I had placed myself in without even knowing it. I have found a new flame and passion for my creativeness that I am sure will lead me right to where I want to be!

My style of music is nothing less than a huge melting pot of different genres. Mixing R&B, Jazz, Pop, and even hints of soul-stirring Gospel sounds. My goal as an artist is to paint a beautiful picture with lyrics that are sure to captivate any soul with vulnerability and honesty.

No one would ever know this unless I say it but I have helped write songs that amount to over 2 million streams and I am beyond proud of that! I remember a time where the only person who heard the songs I wrote was me. haha

I am convinced that I was placed here to share hope through song and whether the world hears my music or not I will always create it and put it out.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my Bestfriend was visiting me in town I would take them to several food spots first Dulan’s Soulfood in the Crenshaw area, Sushi Dan in Studio City, and Another Broken Egg in Burbank. some of my personal favorites.

I would also take them to Manhattan Beach it’s been a favorite of mine for a while. Universal overlook is a great place to watch the sunset and clear your mind if need be. We obviously go on a hike at Runyon Canyon that’s a must-do when visiting.

My friends love to eat and have a good time. I’m not much of a bar person as I get older but I would def be down to find a cool bar to check out.

I have been here for 10 years and you would think I would know a lot of places and things to do in LA, but I sadly have not ventured out enough. Which is all changing now!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes! You can not do life alone. I am a man of faith and I believe that God brings specific people in your life to journey with you.

I always have to acknowledge God first as my main source of support. Without him, I would self-destruct for sure. I have also been blessed with the most caring and loving family; My Grandmothers, Father, and Aunts have encouraged me and loved me with no end in sight while on this journey. I also have a few friends that I can count on one hand who I could not see myself doing life without. They have been my biggest supporters and have been rooting for me from the start!

Lastly, Bishop T.D. Jakes and his book CRUSHING changed my life during the quarantine. It’s a must-read if you are a dreamer of any kind. He highlights the process of winemaking and how you can compare the pruning, crushing, fermenting, and finished product of wine to the crushings of our personal lives. Crushing is never the end, there is always more!
