Meet Leola Davis | Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leola Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leola, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision I made in my career was to be myself. Seems like such an easy choice and concept but in this industry Its very rare. I decided to go against the grain and carve out a new path for myself and for my clients. The top surgery post-op treatment I offer was created by me and the first of its kind! It has been a very popular treatment because it is so needed within the lgbtq community!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Pansy Esthetics is a Black + queer owned and operated esthetic studio catering to BIPOC + LGBTQI communities and allies. All ages, skin types, and concerns are welcomed here! I specialize in acne management, restorative skincare, top surgery post-op care, chemical peels, Hydrafacials and more!
What sets me apart from others is the type of care and services that I offer. The whole mission of my business is to provide care for folks who are usually left behind or often feel unwelcomed in the beauty industry. I offer top surgery post op treatments which is the first of its kind in the industry and I feel very proud of that. I love to be able to offer care to my community members in need during a big transitional time in their lives.
Getting to where I am today business wise has not been easy! Choosing to step outside the box and challenge societal and gender norms in this industry has has come with its judgements and setbacks but Its worth it and has paved the way for a lot of other estheticians who want to do the same. I overcame the challenges by trusting in myself and my community and listening to what was needed and lacking in the industry and making pathways for those needs to exist!
I want the world to know that i’m here first and foremost haha! and also that treating and caring for queer and trans people will always be my number 1 priority because we deserve it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first and foremost we would go to Pansy for a facial an/or body treatment! Definitely a trip to Leo’s taco truck for some of the best al pastor tacos in LA and Uncle Paulie’s for some of the best sandwiches! Wi spa for body scrubs and relaxing in salt rooms, the observatory for the best views of LA and cinespia to catch a movie in the Hollywood cemetery!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my friends who helped me get pansy off the ground and have supported me in every possible way as a new business owner!
