We had the good fortune of connecting with Leran Shimshi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leran, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I hope to have people remember me as kind and helpful. A makeup artist who always made clients feel beautiful and who was capable of making their visions come to life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My approach to makeup is to enhance people, not to change them. Of course, changing someone’s look is fun for a suitable event or photoshoot, but I believe makeup is a tool for enhancing already existing beauty.
It has not been an easy journey, and it’s still not easy. One of my recent challenges was having to take a small break from makeup to finish my degree. When I decided to go to back school, I knew I wouldn’t be able to take clients. I have graduated with my undergrad and am now getting back into my artistry. Challenges and sacrifices are expected when having any business. It’s important to assess all the outcomes and do what you feel is best, whether for yourself or your business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many great spots. I would choose Misfits, NUA, Elephante, Wallys or Matsuhisa for restaurants. These places have great food, drinks, service, and a cute atmosphere.
If this person had never been to LA, I would take them to the Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach boardwalk, and The Getty Villa for day activities.
For a night out, I would take them to No Vacancy for dancing or Dave n Buster’s for some arcade games.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad always supported me in my business from before I started. He is an immigrant who came to America with many dreams and goals and has accomplished them. He was always there for me to push me and tell me that if he was able to do it, then I could too.
