We had the good fortune of connecting with Lex Crooms and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lex, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a Professional Performer, work life balance can get very intertwined. I am in a career space where I am very passionate about what I do, so most days I do not feel like I am working. However, utilizing the word “no” and developing creative outlets outside of dance and work have been very helpful in finding balance between the two. Remembering that my physical and mental health come first. Compromising that is self sabotage.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After Receiving my Bachelors Of Fine arts I decided to more to NYC. At this time, I was a freelance performer; I am my own business and I represent myself. There I was able to utilize my degree within the performance world. I started working with smaller contemporary companies that focused on creating their own footprint in NYC concert dance scene. throughout my networks, I realized my passion is stimulated most when I am assisting in a work that is being built from scratch. It is a different feeling showcasing a work you had a personal part in. I went on to work for Virgin Voyages Cruise line and being signed to FreshTalent Group. Traveling through the Caribbean and performing is an experience I credit to my evolution as a Human as well as an Artists. This is the space that allowed me to discover a healthy work life balance while also challenging myself artistically. Currently, I have the privilage of working for the incomparable Cirque Du Soleil in the Michael Jackson ONE show. I am not sure where dance will take me next but I have so much gratitude for where I have been.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To start, we are going to Bottomless brunch at ALEXAAS!

Spend a day thrifting in the arts district.

Go lay out by the pool at the palms resort.

Catch amateur night at wiseguys!!

and of course go see MJ ONE!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
