Meet Lex Junior | Marketing – Branding Specialist & Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lex Junior and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lex, what role has risk played in your life or career?
There was once upon a time when “failure” scared me, that I felt the need to walk on eggshells to avoid it. There was once upon a time when I felt that constructing and planning out every step and detail of my life would assist with avoiding a mishap as well. However, the funny thing about life is the more you become in tune with self, the more you realize the importance of allowing yourself to “fail” to know how to alter your route. Taking risks has shaped both my life and career in various ways.
Taking a risk on the life I initially planned definitely shaped my current career choice. Risk taking has shown me that greatness never comes from a place of comfort, but usually from a place of uncertainty. Learning to be compassionate with myself has allowed me to take a chance on myself as well. Choosing to live a life of no regrets has allowed me to live in the moment and take a risk on the creative within myself. Doing so, has given me the opportunity to take a risk on every idea, even those that aren’t ideal to others. This way of thinking gave me the drive and push to take a risk and establish a non-traditional marketing and branding agency based in North Carolina.
My risk in career choice still surprises me, choosing to become an entrepreneur vs. a social worker who went so far as to completing grad school to pursue my original plan. Nonetheless, I am still learning thus far the importance of risk taking in both my life and career. Knowing that I don’t always have to be prepared to jump, which usually lands me in the exact place that I am supposed to be in at that exact moment. That it is usually those risks that allows me to gain from those experiences that grounds me far greater lessons than any calculated step. As a creative, that is how I choose to live my life and career, full of risks even if I fail, knowing there’s always opportunity to try again.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a reflection of my inner child. Non-structured, less traditional, and free without any restrictions. I am most proud of how much HQ has progressed since opening. I am excited about the many connections HQ has allowed me to solidify because of my story and mission. Constructing and growing HQ was everything but “easy”. I believe one of the most intense moments are often in the beginning of entrepreneurship when others can’t see your vision. Sometimes due to lack of support, it can cause others to neglect their dreams and pursue something else. However, lack of support allowed me to go back to the drawing board and learn more in depth details regarding my brand.
Facing those type of obstacles challenged me to learn and revamp my entire brand and its’ presence via social media. I decided to remain true to myself with this new found venture in graphics and marketing. A few lessons that I have learned along the way is that everyone is not going to support you, but don’t allow the non-supporters to deter you from your course. Instead, research, learn, and adjust with those that want to support you. Another lesson, I have learned is highlighting your target audience. If you know who your consumers are, you’ll never miss a sale.
I would like for the world to know once they shed the expectations of the world, don’t allow the world to box them in.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would take her (Cedes) to brunch at The Box Office, their food is amazing and they have the hottest brunch events with live music all weekend. From there, we definitely would have to stroll downtown to Sonder Wellness Spa for a little radical self care. Afterwards, we’d definitely have to stop at Tik Tok Coffee and Tea for a vanilla bean frappe and take a few selfies in their cozy themed establishment. There’s so much to do here in Greensboro, that I am still learning the city as a new resident, either way the weekend would be epic.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family and close friends. There continued support gives me the inspiration to continue living out my dreams fearlessly.
