We had the good fortune of connecting with LIANA SIMS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LIANA, what makes you happy? Why?
Spending time with people who are good for my soul makes me very very happy! There’s nothing like eating a good meal. Food makes me happy, LOL. Accomplishing goals that I set out for myself makes me happy. Experiencing other people in their own happiness, makes me happy. A good read, an “aha moment,” a nice sweat, post-workout, natural light. and being with my family. all make me happy. Finding the light in the midst of darkness and clinging to it, makes me happy. Laughing, laughing at something that is genuinely funny to me, that makes me very happy!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want the world to know they can abandon the notion of “fearlessness” and instead choose courage in the face of fear. There’s nothing wrong with fear being on the scene. It’s about what you do with the fear when it surfaces.

My business was birth out of my own life’s journey. I wrote a book entitled, “Monday Never Comes” which is the story behind my food addiction, battle with obesity, and journey of losing 180 pounds, naturally. On this journey I learned that the perfect moment was never coming and that I needed to face my fears and choose courage if I was ever going to do anything great with my life.

Out of this book I developed my courage brand. That’s how it all begun and has been evolving ever since!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Actually one of my best friends lives in Chicago so this is a rather easy question to answer. I love to cook so I would definitely cook her at least one home cooked meal but my favorite restaurants are:

Breakfast Food: Cafe Vida in Culver City, Roscoes Chicken and Waffles,

Lunch or Dinner: Sage Vegan Bistro, Merkato Ethiopian, Ackee Bamboo Jamaican, Simply Wholesome for their patties, Mel’s Fish Shack.

Of course the touristy things like Hollywood (though I don’t frequent there in real life), Leimert Park on a Sunday, hit up a few Farmer’s Markets, Culver City stairs, Valley Ridge Hill, a BBQ hosted by my family. Pre-covid we would have visited my church, Faithful Central Bible Church in Inglewood. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mentor has been a game changer. I mean I have many people who have invested in me but hands down, this woman has gone the distance! Dr. Nicole LaBeach has been a constant in my life since I was 18 years old. She has probably been the greatest human example, of outside of Jesus Christ himself, the unconditional love of God. She speaks to my strengths, doesn’t judge my weaknesses, pushes me to be my best self, encourages in my low moments all at the same time. She makes me a better person and therefore a better business woman!
