We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Gray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, how has the public health crisis affected your views on work-life balance?
Work-life balance has always been something that I have struggled with. As wife and mother, it was the physical time constraints coupled with the emotional demands that overwhelmed and exhausted me. However, it’s because of this dynamic that GECE came to fruition. It’s also one of the main reasons I continue to work hard to foster an environment which embraces flexibility and family within my company. Like so many other working parents, current events have presented unforeseen challenges in both my personal and professional life. However, over the course of my career I’ve learned that balance is possible. It takes commitment and hard work, but it’s possible. I found balance working somewhere I loved. Work for a company that cares about you and your family. Yes, business is business, but business doesn’t have to forget that we are all human at the end of the day. Yes, this public health crisis has wreaked havoc, but it’s also creating a platform for all of us to talk about the challenges we face, share ideas, and above all show each other compassion and grace.
What should our readers know about your business?
GECE is an electrical engineering firm located in Santa Barbara County. We serve clients California Statewide and offer our electrical expertise to support a variety of project types. We design electrical systems for industrial facilities, greenhouses, commercial facilities, hospitality, wineries, healthcare, municipalities, and residential… just to name a few! Santa Barbara County is such a special community to serve. Projects constructed and built within this area offer a direct community connection and impact the lives of so many. The projects we work on provide safe and affordable housing to families, seniors, and veterans. Our work improves electrical infrastructure, offers customized energy saving solutions, increase electrical system reliability, and supports large or small operation. Whether it’s designing a sophisticated electrical system to support locally grown produce in a state-of-the-art production facility, or working with developers to design electrical infrastructure for high-quality affordable housing, we offer the same attention to detail and commitment to our clients. Large or small, we focus on collaboration and strengthening the connection to our community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Central Coast is truly the best place to work and live. Some of our favorite projects would be great stops for anyone looking to check out the area! The Central Coast is home to many incredible wineries and vineyards. A must see is San Antonio Winery. Four generations owned by the Riboli family since 1917, it’s one of the most awarded wineries in California. If luxury camping is more your style, check our Cava Robles. It’s a beautiful resort, immersed in nature, with all the luxury amenities. When it comes to night life, stop by SLO Brew in San Luis Obispo. SLO Brew is one of California’s longest standing brew pubs with hand-crafted drinks, high quality food, and great entertainment.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to recognize all of GECE’s employees. Now more than ever, I am proud to witness their dedication and resiliency as we work together to maintain company operations.
